  • Or what sights do not know. Have a sign so I went, the meaning is good idea there was. Under construction? It was a mystery.

  • This former covered market dates back to 1901. In fact, this location is a historical peculiarity in Paris. Indeed at the time when the order of the Temple occupies this vast territory, in the high Marsh, an enclosure was present with the status of extraterritoriality since the middle ages with the asylum, convenient for debtors. Goldsmiths settled there in the 16th century during the Revolution in 1790, a building shaped as Rotunda is built with duty free shops. In 1802 he was a public market of thrift stores. Then 4 pavilions are built each with a specific destination, carpets, linens, leather, scrap and thrift stores, etc in 1864 a group of buildings is inaugurated, with a structure in cast, fashionable at the time, with arcades. It includes 1888 shops on more than 10,000 m2. Finally in 1901 market is demolished and replaced by the current building. That includes 6 pavilions, with elements of structure in stone and brick with a cast iron frame and glass to bring light. Clothing cheap there are sold with a huge success. I have known the tile of the temple in 1952 and came to buy leather jackets... Then evolving buying habits, the market declines slowly until 1976 where it is intended a be demolished and replaced by a parking lot! . Popular pressure stopped the disaster! Activity continued until 2005 and then the Mayor of Paris transforms it into place d ' cultural and sports activities with an architect for development competition. The public will have to wait until 2013 to take advantage of this great achievement with a 250-seat auditorium, the rest is dedicated to sports, cultural activities and exhibitions. Programs change often. The architecture of this building is a marvel of ornate and very air cast parts. The light easily penetrates this place makes it unique! It is on the historical monument since 1982 and really a success. Access is by the nearest metro station "Temple" line no. 3

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
