  • Antoine Bourdelle was a student of Rodin and a teacher of Giacometti. This small museum gives you a good overview of his career and art work. The sculptures ranges in size from small to gigantic. Ente...  more »
  • Attractive free museum with very pleasant gardens. You do not have to be a sculpture enthusiast to enjoy this museum. In good weather the gardens, with their statues, are very pleasant to visit and re...  more »
  • New enchanted by this place which, 30 years ago, I was already very impressed. The workshops remained in their juice, is almost expected to find a sculptor. The exhibits are gigantic and magnificent. I have a great weakness for two gardens, which are an oasis of green in contrast with this concreted the Tower Montparnasse district. A video explains the technique of bronze which is very informative. Previous reviews criticize the implementation of certain parts in the workshop, it's true I was surprised by the shambles, especially stoves, but on reflection, there are so many things that the place is not enough. Perhaps to review the staging of this play where objects are too posed and not placed in a situation? Despite that this place is one of my favorites and I will return for its atmosphere and the works on display.

  • Superb museum if you're an aspiring artist. Lots of material to draw from. Bourdelle was a very prolific artist, so you'll have loads of subjects here. Your mileage may vary depending on if you want to spend time analyzing the sculptures, but most of them are of very high quality. I was also astounded by the size of the statues in the side hall. Really recommend the visit!
  • Incredible sculptures in a beautiful setting but our experience was spoiled by the lack of understanding from the attendant on the desk when we entered. My husband speaks little French, and, while I was out of earshot, he requested 2 entrants without access to the special exhibition. When I realised he had paid 20euros for a free museum we requested a reimbursement before we entered the museum. The attendant was ill mannered, arrogant and flatly refused. I asked for the manager, who she then spoke, telling only her version of events, so he refused to attend. We received no money back. We found the whole attitude unsympathetic and down right rude.
  • Worthwhile introduction to the work of this lesser-known sculptor, who studied with Rodin and taught Giacometti. Nice combination of indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, with good explanations (in French only) of the complicated bronze-casting process. Free admission, except for temporary exhibitions.
  • A little gem in the heart of Montparnasse, away from the tourist hordes and well worth exploring, the fascinating mixture of sculpture and fashion will hold interest for everyone
  • Nice small museum, great information on bronze sculpting.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
