Boulangerie Poilâne, Paris

#54 of 308 in Shopping in Paris
Boulangerie Poilâne is a historical bread shop in Paris that is a must-see for any bread lover or traveling gourmet. Workers here take a passionate approach to their product, constantly looking for the best ingredients and the best production techniques. Even while you shop, ask about their approach to making the delicious loaves, bun, and more.

Bread at Boulangerie Poilâne is made of four ingredients, including water, flour, salt, and a rising agent. Sea salt is sourced from Guérande, and the flour is exclusively stone-ground. In addition, a piece of dough from the previous batch of bread--the sourdough--is always used as a starter for the next batch. The type of oven used to bake bread is also important. They bake their breads in wood-fired ovens, and these ovens are fed with waste wood that cannot be used for any other industry. Really delicious apple pie, go to Paris every time I go. This time good Sablé in the tasting, but it is also delicious o (^ ▽ ^) o

Bread campaign to the former and sourdough, excellent pastries, a flan to fall, and small tart apples as there good reputation of this House is not usurped.

Delicious but not too popular, and tourists with the locals too became quite famous. And when I went to was different kinds of cookies. And so when I try using the France language. Remember is routine, please try.

I love stopping by here for an apple pastry when I'm in the area. The bread is wonderful as well; i always bring some home. The best bread in Paris in my opinion.

I enjoyed this spot, albeit not much was left when I stopped by. This is supposed to be one of the best shops in Paris! Michael Symon stopped by here while in Paris.

Top-shelf croissants and pastries. They opened at what appeared to be a random time each morning, like a lot of shops in Paris. Service was friendly enough when speaking basic French.

Amazing pastries. The staff were super helpful given my limited French.

Great croissants. Even better apple tart. Truly fantastic find.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
