Bastille Market, Paris

4.6
#8 of 308 in Shopping in Paris
One of the largest markets in the city, Bastille Market allows you to meet food producers and sample new flavors as you shop for top-quality food and drinks. You also can find plenty of unexpected items, including sewing machines, beeswax figurines, mousetraps, and more. It takes time to figure out how to navigate the market. Note that this is a rather expensive place to shop for typical grocery fare, but fresh food often comes at lower prices as the day goes on. Remember to ask before you take pictures. Most stallholders welcome you to photograph their produce, but many don't wish to be photographed themselves. Bastille Market is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Paris Edition.

  • We went kind of late so most of stand is ready to closed. We still got a chance to eat chicken wing and seafood stew rice. Crepe is closed when I want to buy it but it looks really yummy. Most vegetables and fruits stand are clean up and try to closed for the day so we got really good price for our vegetables and fruits
  • Gorgeous, huge market. With everything you could hope for. From fruit and veg stalls over butchers and fish mongers to clothes and bags and household items. Wonderful to stroll along and get some fresh food.
  • In the beginning, I am not really interested about the market which opens in every Thursday and Sunday. Until I walk into the market, I was so surprised that the market have various merchandises and organized. I indeed recommend the Bastille Market in Paris to all tourists who visit Paris.
  • Wonderful market full of fresh, interesting, diverse food and wares. There are some stalls selling other things, but this is really a market about good and interesting food.
  • The best sausages and crepes

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
