Bassin de la Villette, Paris

(4.7/5 based on 45+ reviews on the web)
A man-made lake surrounded by shops and historical buildings, Bassin de la Villette serves as an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll. Sunshine, fresh air, and the buzz of pedestrians infuse the shores with energy. Colorful parasols and long stretches of green lawns line either side, tucked below old tree canopies. Inaugurated by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1808, the lake quickly became the setting for many social events. Today, it functions as a hub of art, culture, and science, with cinemas, museums, restaurants, and pubs all within close proximity. The lake itself provides many water-based recreational activities, so consider renting a sailboat or kayak and getting out on the water. • I saw it on a winter afternoon, it was very nice. I guess in the summertime it must be perfect, expecially at night
  • We took the metro to the station "Stalingrad" and then walk the whole way up to the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie. It is a nice quite area in between a city and you can relaxe. Our friends told ...  more »
  • We are started Stalingrad when best weather from Metro station and from there up to the Park de la Villette down went the Quai interesting Cafés, pedestrian bridges and locks of an old swing bridge, passing on old boats, many Parisians who made picnic on the edge of the channel or play pétanque. With small children walk might be not quite as much fun. There are no barrier to water. At the Quai, there are also playgrounds. At the end, you can walk through the Parc de la Villette.
