Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre, Paris

#3 of 4,866 in Historic Sites in France
Must see · Church · Tourist Spot
You'll recognize Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre by its picture-perfect white stone. The basilica remains white even with weathering and pollution, due to its construction with travertine stone, which exudes the mineral calcite. Before entering, take a look up at the Equestrian Statue of King Saint Louis on the left and the Equestrian Statue of Saint Joan of Arc on the right. When you enter, you're surrounded by interesting artifacts and art, including the mosaic in the apse entitled "Christ in Majesty,” which is among the largest in the world. Join the daily Catholic mass or meditate at the fountain in the gardens. To visit Basilique du Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre on your trip to Paris, use our Paris trip app.

  • One of my favourite churches in Paris, although there are many lovely ones. The time I was there, I even spoke to a nun and she was so kind and spoke to me in English and helped me understand her faith a little. I am forever grateful! The building itself is a piece of art and beautiful! The view from the church is amazing as you can see the whole city.
  • It is a very beautiful place. It is worth visiting. If you have the opportunity and you are in Paris, do not miss the opportunity to visit it. It is a very beautiful panorama. You will not regret you will be left with very beautiful memories from here. I recommend this to everyone. From my note 10.
  • Built in Early 1914 and got finished in 1919 after World War I, The Sacré-Cœur is the second most-visited monument in Paris. It is located at the highest point of the city. There are stunning beauty of Paris from here. Although you have both options like by stairs and by cable car to reach on this top, but it worth it to use the stairs and enjoy the great view of the city at the top.
  • Prepare some good shoes to go there by walk. Huge hill but the church and the city view from the square worth it! Although you need to pay to get inside the building. There are many restaurants around and fairs with cheap clothes and souvenirs. Be careful: pickpockets in the zone
  • Beautiful building, can get quite crowded, but it's well worth the visit. Going to the top of the hill rewards the visitors with one of the most beautiful view of Paris
