  • The Carnavalet Museum and the Cluny House being closed for another 2 years, so the crypt is the only place where it is possible to discover the history of Paris, even if it is mainly limited to the island of the city. The place quickly enough can be visited and is not overloaded with visitors. Small mention for junior explanations on the panels that have really been appreciated.

  • The archeological dig reveals the roman start of the city of Paris. Exhibitions show the walls and other buildings from this time. There is information showing how the city grew including the building...  more »
  • Not in the most obvious place, this is a little gem of a museum. When they went to build a car park all this history was discovered. Well worth the visit and very interesting.  more »

  • Located beneath the foundations of Notre Dame, this ancient crypt is fabulous for learning about, and seeing relics of, the history of Paris. Signage and educational displays are in multiple languages, and are very good translations. There's a heavy dose of the history of coins found at the site, but plenty of othelr fascinating information and artifacts as well. Skip the audio tour...The signage is that good!
  • The lovely archaeological remains of the island are certainly the most captivating thing about this museum, as well as the numerous informative panels all around it. It also has a small collection. I was happily surprised by the 3D maps. Extremely innovative and super well done! Very nice personnel.
  • The crypt is a neat place to check out if you're interested in the ancient history of Paris, how it was founded, and how it grew over the centuries. You can view the archeological diggings and finding including the foundations of the original city walls, but it's all ruins. Again, neat if your history minded, but if you're in Paris to sight see, then this can be skipped.
  • Very interesting and instructive. Probably better suited to curious grown ups than children. Would be nice to have more detailed descriptions of the ruins on display.
  • An extremely interesting archaeological site, it will give you a different perspective on Paris. In particularly the old city walls now buried metres below the street and the diaramas, which reminded me of the drawings at the beginning of all the Asterix the Gaul books! Well worth an hour and a bit of peace from the hubbub above!
