#7 of 15 in Zoos & Aquariums in Ile-de-France
Built for the colonial exhibition of 1931, the former Musée des Colonies retains the tropical aquarium, aquarium tropical de la porte dorée, from this period. At this site, you can experience a learning trail, primitive and electric fish, and the ocean life of Asian waters and of Africa and South America. Don’t forget to check out the unforgettable shows featuring the crocodile pit, intimidating sharks, and deadly piranhas. The crocodiles were brought from Dakar in 1948, and other watery residents include cuttlefish and luminous deep-water species.

aquarium tropical de la porte dorée also features a diverse collection of aquatic fauna and flora of the warm seas, and offers many activities for children and adults to help them better understand the aquatic life and the influences man has on the environment. Hidden in the basement of the Palace of the Colonies, the aquarium is surprisingly large and very many species of fish. The explanations are rather sketchy, many fish are not named, but so what? Some specimens are really impressive. Above all, children can really enjoy the visit, many aquariums are at their height, or benches have been installed. It works really well, to the benefit also of parents. The price is reasonable, and possible access by bus, metro or tram.

The Palace Golden alone by its architecture and decoration is worth a visit. The reliefs and frescoes are magnificent. The aquarium has a wide variety of fine specimens in display aquariums. This might seem dated, the décor is sober, leaving any room for contemplation of the aquariums without superfluous decoration. This aquarium is didactic and commendable efforts of the staff to achieve this. The signs would be to improve but is essentially not discover the diversity of aquatic wildlife.

Ideal for a family outing, there are benches around the aquarium so that the children can ride and see everything. Explanations of the species are very interesting and the animals seem healthy and aquariums are very clean. Only complaint, some aquariums are really too small for large species, if we can expand the aquarium take smaller species... The temporary exhibition was very interesting also.

A small aquarium at affordable price. In many markets inside and out. Fish, turtles, alligators, and corals... to see

The aquarium is not huge but the price to be expected. There are still quite a few aquarium and a few surprises. The species are rather interesting

A really nice little aquarium. Lots of animals to see. Really liked my daughter (2 years). She got bored.

Good looking! Two remarks: disabled access and strollers by a "real" hoist... The Palm 🤔mais come back to the electrician that has disfigured the ceiling of the entrance hall with the shafts of the worst effect or then maybe he was directed to proceed like this...

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
