Inspirock Rating:
4.1/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
Paris’s oldest sweet shop, À la mère de famille, was founded in 1761 and is still operating in its original location. On your visit, you will find a charming little store that hasn’t changed much over the past 250 years. If you’re a chocolate lover, try the ice cream, which includes flavors like chocolate sorbet, chocolate mint, and chocolate with candied orange and a hint of vodka. There are also various sorts of small chocolates, candied fruits, calissons, butterscotch roudoudous, marshmallow ropes, delicate violet bonbons, and other sweets, too.

The company now has several other locations in Paris, but a visit to the original shop on rue du Faubourg Montmartre is a must for lovers of Paris and sweets alike. For À la mère de famille and beyond, use our Paris trip builder to get the most from your Paris vacation.

  • Is definitely what it was. Many products are everywhere, and at a lower price... Certainly, there are still good chocolates, but the marshmallow is parched, jams are overpriced, hospitality is negligent. It's a shame for what has been a place of rare and healthy products until the years 2OOO!

  • We went several times in this superb shop, we had the pleasure of being always greeted by a charming friendly saleswoman and very good counselor property. I highly recommend this store both for his home, the quality and the variety of products offered.

  • We were at another branch, close to the Pompidou. Excellent, even despite not sharing language. Chocolates that we buy are impressive, as medallions with finite ultra several fillings that are the specialty of the House. Don't miss them, are great.

  • Amazing confectionery in Paris. I have the book so it was interesting to go to the actual shop. Staff were attentive but not pushy as we perused. Quite expensive but high quality goods.
  • This branch of A La Mère de Famille is apparently the oldest sweet shop in Paris, and was on my list of places to visit. But, other than a lovely exterior, I wasn't blown away. For a start, it's pretty over-priced. A large bar of chocolate was just under 5EUR. Now I don't mind paying that much for good chocolate in nice packaging, but it was neither pretty or good quality - probably not much better than Cadbury's actually. This is a fun place to have a poke around - take pictures of the marzipan fruit, rows of jam and boxes of biscuits - but I'm not tempted to buy anything from here on my next trip to Paris.
  • Charming little store to find some of the best calisson de provence in Paris. Avoid last minute christmas rush. I found the prices quite fair. Great for presents.
  • Best macaroons ever !!! Yummy 😋😋
  • Get the white chocolate filled with caremel.
