#44 of 308 in Shopping in Paris
Paris’s oldest sweet shop, À la Mère de Famille, was founded in 1761 and is still operating in its original location. On your visit, you will find a charming little store that hasn’t changed much over the past 250 years. If you’re a chocolate lover, try the ice cream, which includes flavors like chocolate sorbet, chocolate mint, and chocolate with candied orange and a hint of vodka. There are also various sorts of small chocolates, candied fruits, calissons, butterscotch roudoudous, marshmallow ropes, delicate violet bonbons, and other sweets, too.

The company now has several other locations in Paris, but a visit to the original shop on rue du Faubourg Montmartre is a must for lovers of Paris and sweets alike. Using our custom trip planner, Paris attractions like À la Mère de Famille can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Chocolate shop and entered her, did not have such a history. On the inside, chocolate, candy, etc., are on display with a dream-like world. Chocolate "from here here please, piece by piece. "And was seen next to react to the clerk made Maseru is ' don't buy this boxed in, my cup!. "And let me know. It was under the name: the family of stores. By the way I recommend I called round, thin chocolate (in chocolate placed various creams that are. ) Is.

  • I was this afternoon with my husband at the Montmartre ... had never heard, but I spent in front and I was blown away by the variety of sweets and chocolates. I went to make a question for attending and it was rude and impatient, removing the pot of chocolate out of my hand, saying that I was holding properly (as I wasn't paying your case broke);p he did another question and the same clerk was again ironic and rude, like I couldn't ask what kind of macaron was more sought after in the store. I apologized and backed off, though it took me some chocolates. Anyway, the store can be traditional and have good chocolates, but nobody deserves to be treated poorly.

  • Have a sweet tooth? Then add this candy boutique to your list of visits when in Paris. You'll find some of the best handmade chocolate in Paris here, plus an assortment of candied and sugar infused treats. The building is beautifully preserved and sets the scene of historic glamour and grandeur before you even cross the threshold. Be prepared to spend a few euro, it's not cheap however the prices to reflect the quality of the products in store. You definitely get what you pay for here 😍
  • Sweets paradise. Amazing place with lots of candy like souvenirs.
  • Definitely what I expected from such a historical Paris icon. The chocolate lived up to the reputation. Will absolutely go back for more.
  • If you are a chocolate fan, this is your place. Not much variaty but a great place.
  • Opened in 1761, the oldest chocolate shop in Paris, plus everything is delicious! The assorted boxes make excellent gifts.

Where to stay in Paris

Each of the city’s 20 arrondissements, or districts, has a personality all its own. If you prefer high-end accommodations and to be in the middle of the action, look for lodging in the 1st through the 4th arrondissements. For more affordable lodging and access to major metro lines, try the 12th. The Oberkampf area of the 11th arrondissement has an edgier, more hip vibe. For easy access to tourist sites,  the 16th is within a stone’s throw of the Arc de Triomph and the Eiffel Tower, and the 17th is within walking distance to the Champs-Elysées. Avoid the 18th, 19th, and 20th, because these can be dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the city.
