  • Superb! Beautiful! Awesome! This tour will be unforgettable! I will stay some time in AWE in front of a marvel: the "Via Vitae"... The "way of life" of Joseph Chaumet, Parisian Goldsmith (1852-1928), was completed in 1904. It was classified "National Treasure" in 2000. ... 2,70 m high; 3 m wide: a splendor. Acquired by the city of currents through the national heritage Fund, the regional fund for the acquisition of the museums of France, and the cultural sponsorship. This "way of life" is an exceptional work performed in precious materials: gold and ivory for the hundred and thirty-eight figurines representing scenes from the life of Christ, Silver Gold and patinated and rock crystal forming the Trinity in glory, Platinum, diamonds and rubies on the Eucharist, marbles of different colors, alabaster, onyx and gilt bronze base and each stage scenery. Presented in the salons of jewellery Chaumet, place Vendôme, Paris, until 1993 when it was dismantled, it was accessible only to a few privileged visitors. Joseph Chaumet (1852-1928) rehabilitates here the medieval adage that nothing is too good for God by choosing of noble materials, worked on every detail. A work involved in mystical order and in response to ambient anticlericalism of the end of the 19th century, the artist tries 'a test of artistic representation, using stones and precious metals, the notions that humanity has of God and his nature, human beings and their nature, mutual relationships of human beings and their relationship with the creator. The work has been designed in a symbolic way. Rock ' represents the material through which circulates the life which has its source in God. " the latter is materialized by the river which, under the resurrected Christ, springs from the Tomb opened by an Angel, "from God can penetrate the mystery of its origin, symbol of life, it passes through the tomb of Christ to show that the death of Di. "had Redeemer... has regenerated as the source of life." VISIT: ABSOLUTELY!

  • A very nice collection of old paintings of religious subjects. Unfortunately, accompanied of huge modern sculptures (in my opinion) having no connection with the tables. A true Egyptian Mummy, a beautiful building built as a museum. A temporary exhibition in the basement which has horrified us! Hundreds of ex-voto of the 17th century to today. Really bad taste. Fortunately entry free (European heritage days).

  • Beautiful well put paintings in value by their arrangement and by natural light. And especially a daring mix of classical and modern works. The opportunity to discover contemporary artists. The price of € 4 pers. allows to discover a beautiful Museum at all.
