Orléans Cathedral, Orleans

(4.7/5 based on 850+ reviews on the web)
The stained glass windows at Orléans Cathedral depict the story of Joan of Arc who attended evening Mass in this cathedral on May 2, 1429 while in the city to lift the siege. Built in the Gothic architectural style from 1278 to 1329 and partially destroyed in 1568, the cathedral was moderately rebuilt from 1601-1829. Despite renovations, some ancient remains that date back to the fourth century can still be seen in the crypt. • Cathedral visited a cold and wet Saturday in February, as part of a guided tour offered by the Office of tourism of Orleans. Very rich interior in very good condition, both the stone as the stained glass windows, with many details to observe. Particularly moving: the 12 paintings of the life of Joan of Arc (instead of the usual 12 paintings of Christ), as well as commemorative panels and thank you to the American victims died for the liberation of the city. Wrap up warm winter because the Cathedral is not heated, and it's almost cooler than outside!

  • its façade is refreshed slowly, letting admire his fine white lace. The Cathedral and the old Center that surrounds it are well rehabilitated. All worth a visit. The Interior is more classic and at this season, it's freezing cold that does not want to take forever.

  • Only stopped for 2 hrs. Wish we could have stayed all day.
  • Building that doesn't move much.. but is still interesting.
  • Absolutely gorgeous cathedral with a history of investing in beautification
  • I like the building , although very old , but there is sense of history .
