Ruin
Roman Theatre of Orange was built early in the first century CE, and today hosts the Chorégies d'Orange, a summer opera festival. This is one of the best preserved Roman theaters in the Julian colony of Arausio, which was established by the soldiers of the second legion. UNESCO declared this a World Heritage Site in 1980. It is famous for varied dramatic forms, such as mime, pantomime, poetry readings, and attelana, a kind of farce similar to the commedia dell' arte. Roman audiences, who were allowed to attend free of charge, were fascinated by the spectacular and elaborate sets. The theater was originally used as a distraction for the colonies, to discourage them from political action. • Other Roman monument of great charm and great interest for fans of Roman Antiquities. Definitely one of the best preserved in Europe. Entrance fee for the single attraction 9.50 euros, including audio guide with interesting explanations.

  • If you go through Orange and that you don't have to visit only one thing, it is the Roman Theatre. The stage wall the best preserved in Europe. The Théâtre antique d'Orange is part of the monuments the most impressive Roman (with the arenas of Nimes and the pont du Gard) in France. It is a jewel that you absolutely have to see in his life. If you attend one day the choregies or a concert or... a... outdoor cinema session the time travel is assured!

  • This might be the most exquisite Roman ruin in France. The history and size of it drew me in and the museum across the street holds even more splendor, so don't miss out on that either.
  • Amazing 2,000 year old roman stadium with stage wall. Still used today for concerts. Fascinating to walk around and imagine how it must have been when built.
  • Nice place. At the moment starts long term renovation.
  • Not very impressive to me and way to expensive.
  • Fantastic old well preserved roman time period theatre - well worth the entrance feed to explore.
