  • We decided to walk up the track. The notices say 20 min but you would have to be extremely fit to walk it in that time. it is some climb. Once there the views are spectacular as is the engineering of ...  read more »
  • The Fort is located above the village of Villefranche-de-Conflent, already from the place, the sight of the Fort in the mountains is very impressive. In 20 minutes you can become the Fort from the town on an acceptable path. The second way to walk to the Fort to come, is the subterranean staircase of the 1000 levels, this way is more suitable for the descent. Alternatively you can also drive to the SUV to the Fort, the cars are within the location of tourist information and drive demand. The Fort itself is very well preserved and can be visited freely for the most part. Against a deposit of 2 euros, you get in a restaurant that is in the Interior of the Fort, description (different languages) for a numbered loop. If you follow this path is all important and interesting areas of the Fort. The view from the wall to the surrounding valleys and the place is just terrific.

  • We opted for the relatively easy trail, allowing for great views. The fort is in very good condition, with very little finally served... Vauban was decidedly a sacred Builder! Friendly service, free visit.

  • Beautifull fort at the top of a mountain with good views and a tour around the place
  • Many, many years ago, when I was young and agile, my husband and I stayed in the town at the confluence of the three rivers (Villefranche-de-Conflent) and I tried to climb to the fort every day by a different route. The best and hardest was straight upon a small path cutting through brambles, rocks and every other obstacle - exhilarating. I wish I could do it again, but I'm delighted that I had that memorable daily experience. One day my husband met me at the top with a picnic lunch and we sat in front of the fort and looked down at the marvelous town below. In its way - excuse the visual pun - it was a high point in our stay in Villefranche. I don't remember that the fort was open, but it was worth the trip in any case.
  • Super fort. We took the path to mount (attention high elevation but possible even with children). Then a very nice strong with good explanations on a leaflet provided. A wonderful view of the village and the Valley. We are descended through the underground 1000 markets (watch the calves the next day!)

  • After 20 minutes walk to access the site and after we being encountered by a 4 x 4 who rode at full speed with no respect for walkers, we had the bad surprise to pay admission for the heritage days... Person to guide you, paper wrong and confusing (€2 deposit in the case you want to leave with...) Fortunately the person at the front desk is friendly and personable and the site is worth the trip.
