15 minute walk to get to the Fort by the trail, wonderful views and great visit, back through the underground of a thousand steps to do!, plan your water bottles, because drinks at the Fort are excessively expensive! only negative point of our visit

Visit of the fort that leaves us a little taste of incompleteness. The climb is very nice as well as the descent of all these countless steps. Nevertheless we expect a visit more "alive" than cash and a topo sheet. Although it is noted that the fort is extremely well maintained.

The fort's location high above Villefrance-de-Conflent requires non-trivial effort to reach it. I have seen families with young children make the walk up, but it takes at least 20 minutes for anyone e...  more »

Beautifull fort at the top of a mountain with good views and a tour around the place

Many, many years ago, when I was young and agile, my husband and I stayed in the town at the confluence of the three rivers (Villefranche-de-Conflent) and I tried to climb to the fort every day by a different route. The best and hardest was straight upon a small path cutting through brambles, rocks and every other obstacle - exhilarating. I wish I could do it again, but I'm delighted that I had that memorable daily experience. One day my husband met me at the top with a picnic lunch and we sat in front of the fort and looked down at the marvelous town below. In its way - excuse the visual pun - it was a high point in our stay in Villefranche. I don't remember that the fort was open, but it was worth the trip in any case.

Very nice fort, the panels"don't drink the water"all over my good fort laughing finally not really after 1000 markets for access to the fort. Very nice staff visit the fort friendly. 7 euros for access to the fort by stairs or trail walk (for one plan walking shoes) 10 euros for the mounted 4 x 4.

Pretty strong that deserves a little visit. Several ways to get there: upstairs at 1000 markets, by the way 4 x 4 or walk by the trail (option). Allow 30 to 40 minutes to climb with good shoes. Refreshment course place.
