Château de Roquefixade, Occitanie

(4.5/5 based on 25+ reviews on the web)
Considered one of the Cathar castles, Château de Roquefixade sits on a cliff overlooking the village of Roquefixade. Records of the castle and the site date back to 1180 CE. The castle survived until 1632, when King Louis XIII ordered the destruction of Roquefixade as it served him no purpose and was costly to maintain. Make arrangements in advance to visit the exhibit in the Town Hall reception room. You can download a map of the grounds, which features dates associated with the different sections of the ruins. • The ruins, located on a rocky spur, dominate a wide Valley in the face of the massif of Tabe. Since the Calm, prairie located above the Castle, in an impressive calm gaze goes Montsegur at the massif of the Lords 2.

  • Splendid panoramic views. The mountain is beautiful. Easy access by bike or by car to the bottom of the mountain. Nice site for hiking.

  • From montségur walked towards it. Through woods and fields with cows. The hunting season was unfortunately already opened. Came by a war memorial. Dozens of men of the Maquis are 6 July 1944 shot by German soldiers. Then continue to Roquefixade. Luckily I had bread, biscuits and water. The only terrace that was sold Saturday, only drink, chips and zoétigheden unfortunately. Then move on to the high Castle. Great views. Unfortunately I could not come close to the Castle.

  • Too bad that the castle is in for repair, but the panorama is worth!

  • No visit to itself, but after 10 min of rather steep hike was an exceptional landscape under the eyes. The ruins of the Castle are now closed because of the risk of subsidence, caution if you walk through the chain.
