  • Do not miss to make a visit to the market of Noirmoutier, especially that of the square of the Republic, which takes place every Friday and sometimes on other days according to the seasons. Of course check on the site of the tourist office. Not only foreign market but also a fantastic Hall. A part for what dress and especially but shoes but what is before everything interesting, these are fresh. A very large market that occupies all the great places around the halls. The goods are varied, smiling traders. On the stands of fruits, Mara of wood strawberries, blueberries. The Department of the Tarn-and-Garonne Moissac currants. Different varieties of tomatoes, like the hearts of beef, pineapple, black of Crimea and the horns of the Andes. Fisheries of vine and beautiful apricots orangered, native variety of the United States, which has an intense copper orange skin. Juicy and tender, these apricots have very pronounced aromas. A few stands of flowers where you will also find the production of vegetables such as Zucchini and beet. But as previously mentioned, enter this Hall Charles Robert Loue, Mayor of Noirmoutier from 1963 to 1971, through one of the doors. The rays of fish and crustaceans are truly exceptional, with a selection as in few places. I have no recollection of having seen miss a crustacean. Lobsters from local fishing in number. Prawns caught dragging, fishing gear dragged on the bottom, used for fishing and shellfish who live more or less buried or placed in the sediments. Of the Combs, kind of crabs which hide under stones that are used often in bisque. Gray in color, you can tell on their last legs flattened as sickle blades. The renowned sardines of Saint Gilles cross of life, little port Vendée, much appreciated soles for the fineness of their meat, shrimp, gray or not. The auction of Noirmoutier or rather Herbaudière crabs. The grey bream often also called "griset", of red mullet, Mulet, cousins of the barbet with a slightly paler flesh, of color and taste. White tuna line but here the auction of the sands, hake from the local gillnet line sold in tails, whiting, blank. Spiders of sea or crab-spiders, which have thinner than the crab flesh. Lobsters and langoustines of Noirmoutier, delicious among other a la plancha. We should not neglect the other booths such as butchers and meats; chipolatas, sausages, black pudding with onions. Spiders of marinated pork, pâtés and sausages. Pit of oysters, clams and mussels bouchot of local producers. And of course the potato of Noirmoutier. The salt in the region which comes in various sizes including the flower. Some salts are also flavored such as herbs. Glasswort salt natural or 'horns' which are small wild plants which grow on the beaches and in the salt marshes of the coast. Very rich in mineral salts and with a nice salty taste. And within the range of pastries, a specialty of the corner which has helped small lunch, maraichins flan. A vendean specialty consisting of a preparation of milk and eggs called the 'fiounee' or 'fionai' scented if desired or not cinnamon; a device that comes to cover a dough. Not just the blanks as well as other classics such as tatin pies or even the dirty cakes pastries. A bio fruits and vegetables corner. With beautiful herbs like thyme, chervil, chives and cilantro. Fine red fruits like raspberries, strawberries from Pornic called 'Cirafines', fruit that is part of the susceptible varieties. At the booth of dairy products, butter in in clod, cream, cheese and the beaten in pretty pots. A selection of cheeses from all over the France and elsewhere found on the good restaurants on the island. The Nantes Pornic priest, also called cheese of the priest. Pressed dough uncooked washed rind that comes in different formats. It is matured on spruce planks in being regularly washed salt water, either for some muscadet. The herbillette, thermised milk goat cheese. The maraichine, cheese from cows of the same name. An animal particularly suited to the prairies of Marsh, very famous for the quality of its milk. The tomme of Vendée made with goat's milk, pressed not cooked and rind washed with a fairly pronounced salinity. So market but also halls to combine together with an impressive selection of seafood but also fruits and vegetables quality. A beautiful hour spent in an atmosphere really very epicurean.

  • Nice walking to do on Sunday morning. The outside is friendly but there is nothing particularly exceptional... clothing, etc. However the covered market is much more typical, already very busy in this month of June, with a beautiful fishmonger stalls, and all the products of local producers more fresh and appetizing than the other. We got the mouth water! The atmosphere is good-child... very nice.
