Place Garibaldi, Nice

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web
A monumental example of Baroque architecture, Place Garibaldi spreads across the area between the old town and the town center, lined by Roman-style buildings. This spacious square was designed by Antoine Spinelli, who also worked on the beautiful Chapelle du Saint-Sépulcre, which is visible from the square. Visit the cafes and try the excellent local seafood. From here, take a tour of the harbor of Vieux-Nice, the municipal theater, or the Modern Art Museum, which are all in walking distance. • Nice has made some nice changes to the city over recent years and Place Garibaldi has benefited. There is lots of outdoor space, 4-5 outdoor cafes to enjoy, restaurants and a Tram stop. Not much of a 'destination' but a good place to pass through and a gateway to the up and coming area between Place Garibaldi and the Port starting at Rue Bonaparte, which is filling with new eateries, cafes and interesting new spots.
  • Place Garibaldi is the central point for Nice locals. With the tram running straight through it, this large open square is close to the old town of Nice, the Port of Nice, rue Bonaparte and the central bus hub of the Nice transport network. As a result, this makes Place Garibaldi an ideal place to soak up the sun on one of the many large Brasserie or Restaurant terrasses. The open space is good to let the kids run around, under supervision of course, and is often used for antique and craft markets, promotional and music events. Expect some disruption for the next couple oof years (until aorund 2018) due t the undergrund tram line and station being built by the square.
  • Like every other city and town Nice too has this lively Square where one can slow down sit and relax enjoying the ambiance. Its a big open area with many eating joints in and around. Its more beautiful in the evening when the square is alighted and one can just lie down in its calmness.
  • A nice square with plenty of places to grab a bite to eat or just to enjoy the square itself.
  • Beautiful square with many bistros and restaurants. I usually have a café & croissant there before I start exploring town
