Musée Marc Chagall, Nice

Musée Marc Chagall, founded in 1973, houses some of the best works of Marc Chagall. Chagall himself guided the architecture of the museum. Note the mosaic arching over a pond, and the blue stained glass that adorns the walls of the concert hall. View a famous series of 17 religious paintings, which Chagall offered to the French state in 1966. The museum hosts exhibitions on world religion, as per Chagall's wishes. A great site, with restaurant café in the garden. In the auditorium you can see a movie on the master. The sculpture Hall was visible from the lobby, not accessible for maintenance. The exhibition is mainly composed of pictorial representations inspired by the Old Testament and love from Chagall to his wife. There is a representative collection of the artist's skill with the use of various materials.

A small museum with a garden and an open-air bar. Admission is free for everyone - 26 and an audio guide is provided at the entrance. There are 3 large rooms, Biblical paintings, paintings on the theme of love and a room of sculptures. There is also a movie theater. The Museum is in the form of small house and Chagall decided to the locations of the paintings. Very interesting even for those who do not know Chagall!

Great gallery, good size (not too big - you will have enough time to see and appreciate it all in an hour or two) with a great selection of Chagall work hung and curated partly by the artist himself. Was originally a museum showing his biblical message series, but the collection is now larger, albeit mostly still religious in nature. Highlights are his sculptures, particularly the ceramics (not seen many of these elsewhere), some fantastic stained glass, and a huge, spectacular mosaic over a pool outside. There's an interesting film as well if you have time (full run time nearly an hour) and a decent cafeteria. Bear in mind that there is no secure parking nearby - don't leave luggage in the car - and they won't let you in with a suitcase.

Inspirational, peaceful. You could combine this visit with a 25 minute stroll over to the Matisse Museum and adjoining Archaeological Museum of Nice-Cimiez. Tip: Watch out for the closed days, but if it is closed you have plenty of other alternative museums/galleries to visit that day. But make sure to circle back to here another time.

Lovely place, a short walk from the train station. Café in the garden is a plus. Not particularly extensive given the €10 entrance fee (July 2017). This is, however, surely the best place to see Chagall's 12 big biblical paintings. As usual no baby changing facilities. But give them credit for step free access and a free audio guide.

You will need photo ID to get an audio guide. Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful exhibit. Reasonably priced gift shop.

Famous paintings in medium-size museum; good text commentaries on wall (per room) and beside paintings. Small garden with coffe shop. It is a bit of uphill walk from center (we took bus; tickets can be purchased from driver), easier to walk back. Watch steet signs for entrance as maps is showing it on the other side. There is a small giftshop. About 1:30-2:00 hour was adequate time for us.
