Musée Marc Chagall, Nice

Musée Marc Chagall, founded in 1973, houses some of the best works of Marc Chagall. Chagall himself guided the architecture of the museum. Note the mosaic arching over a pond, and the blue stained glass that adorns the walls of the concert hall. View a famous series of 17 religious paintings, which Chagall offered to the French state in 1966. The museum hosts exhibitions on world religion, as per Chagall's wishes. • This small museum packs a powerful punch with the largest collection of Marc Chagall art in the world. Honestly although I adore looking at those huge works of Chagall in Lincoln Center, I didn't...  more »
  • I understand the gallery is for Marc Chagall, but there is a limited amount of works here and half the space is empty.  more »
  • Nice museum. ALL Chagall - which is interesting, but quite single-focused. The pieces I liked best were the outdoor mosaic and the details in the Garden of Eden. Stained glass in the auditorium...  more »

  • Very interesting museum, well curated and displaying great Chagall masterpieces. I suggest grabbing the free audio guides offered in exchange for an ID: I found them very useful to provide valuable information on the paintings and artist. My favourite part was a documentary on Chagall played in the auditorium: unfortunately not all of it is subtitled but it’s still a good experience. Enjoy your visit!
  • This is, quite possibly, my favourite art museum in the world. Chagall's artwork is overwhelming beautiful on its own, but the museum also provides the perfect setting for its exposition (one can feel Chagall's hand at every turn - it makes one wishes artists could always decide the shale of their own exhibitions). Perfect lighting, enough space to always view the works serenely... I can't recommend a visit enough!
  • Loved seeing Chagall’s work, however ... I think it is too pricey (10 euros) for the 12+ paintings they display + we were not able to see the stained glass because they were showing a movie by another contemporary artist and put the curtains over the windows. No proper information about the closing of this section - a very small info on one wall next to the cloak room about the movie but not that that will mean that the stained glass cannot be seen. The gift shop is also pricey (5 euros for one plastic folder).
  • If you are an admirer of Chagall's art, you will appreciate and enjoy this Museum. There are many examples of Chagall's work, but the core of the collection is religious works that are impressive and moving. The museum is well laid out and the lighting is excellent. There is a cafe on the grounds with some tasty food on offer. My wife, 17-year-old son and I all enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend a visit to those who are interested in Chagall's art or those with a more general interest in 20th century art.
  • Chagall is everywhere in large format on every wall. Parking is challenging, but worth the trouble. There is a cafe inside which has a good selection and very reasonable prices. 2 thumbs up.
