Massena Museum, Nice

Categories: Art Museums, Museums
Inspirock Rating:
4/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web
The neoclassical Italianate architecture of Massena Museum was inspired by the Rothschild villa in Cannes. A very skillful restoration of the historic gardens was conducted in 2006-2007, which restored the original luster of the aristocratic mansion. The villa is surrounded by a courtyard, a French garden, and a great lawn. Wander past remarkable plants, such as the Magnolia grandiflora, Araucaria excelsa, Melaleuca, and Brachychiton populneum. • It is not a museum competung with some high level museums in the city, but if you are nearby, it worth visiting.

  • Josephine's tiara, Napoleon's vest and death-mask, exhibits on Nice history and Garibaldi (born here). Well worth the visit.
  • Beautiful building housing a number of Nice related historical objects, posters, and paintings. All signage is in French. All paintings in the building are portraiture but there are a few cool historic nuveau style posters to see upstairs. Would not recommend visiting with children - lack of any interactive or activity based exhibits. Expensive for what it is, save this for a rainy day if you have already seen the modern art museum, the Chagal museum, the Matisse museum, Mt Boron, the harbor, castle Hill, and everything else in Nice.
  • Fascinating museum, pretty cheap (at least for students) , it tells the history of nice with paintings, artifacts, videos and photos. For me , a must for a trip in Nice
  • Straightforward. Very nice for what it is but a little small.
  • Interesting place to visit with nice atmosphere and presentation. Spent an enjoyable hour looking around. Sits in a nicely maintained garden. The only negative aspect is that all the information is in French.
  • Very nice museum, in front of the beach with a very huge exhibition (photographs, books and various objects) of the history of the city
