Massena Museum, Nice
(4/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
The neoclassical Italianate architecture of Massena Museum was inspired by the Rothschild villa in Cannes. A very skillful restoration of the historic gardens was conducted in 2006-2007, which restored the original luster of the aristocratic mansion. The villa is surrounded by a courtyard, a French garden, and a great lawn. Wander past remarkable plants, such as the Magnolia grandiflora, Araucaria excelsa, Melaleuca, and Brachychiton populneum. • In her magnifies villa that was built the prince Victor Masséna, the namesake Museum houses, in a magnificent setting, overlooking the Promenade des Anglais, nice nice collections. The garden, for small, is nice, and the visit is completed by a nice shop. Highly recommended!

  • Worth spending an hour in the Museum from very ornate salons and with a first floor with Napoleonic. There is also a weight of Italy with portraits of Garibaldi and Victor Emmanuel II. Easy to get to ...

  • I've been to Nice 4 times over the past 9 years. Have always meant to check out this museum and finally did on the last visit. It's a waste of time. Supposedly it's an overview of art history and Nice...  more »

  • Beautiful building housing a number of Nice related historical objects, posters, and paintings. All signage is in French. All paintings in the building are portraiture but there are a few cool historic nuveau style posters to see upstairs. Would not recommend visiting with children - lack of any interactive or activity based exhibits. Expensive for what it is, save this for a rainy day if you have already seen the modern art museum, the Chagal museum, the Matisse museum, Mt Boron, the harbor, castle Hill, and everything else in Nice.
  • Great history of Nice as applied to the Napoleonic wars and subsequent history. A must visit on the Promenade Des Anglais, and the ticket is good at most other museums in Nice.
  • Beautiful building but exhibition a little thin
  • No material in English. The signage that was there in French seemed a bit sparse.
  • Fascinating museum, pretty cheap (at least for students) , it tells the history of nice with paintings, artifacts, videos and photos. For me , a must for a trip in Nice
