  • We were lucky enough to visit during the weekend of the European days of heritage (EHD) during a stay of three days in the Gers. Very nice Castle-Museum. Some animations (reading of Tales) had been planned as part of the EHD 2016, which made the tour more fun. The Museum presents a model showing the Castle and its gardens-terraces overlooking the fuck, as he had been rebuilt between the 14th and 16th centuries (based on a mansion dating from 1088) by the Lords of Albret to be finally completed in the reign of Jeanne III d'Albret, Queen of Navarre (1528-1572). He understood then four body building. This castle served as home to the future King Henri IV and his first wife, Queen Margot from 1577 to 1582. Today, only the northern wing of the Castle (of renaissance style) has been preserved (disbanded during the French Revolution). The castle was converted into a Museum in 1934 to present local and regional archaeological collections ranging from the prehistoric times to the Roman conquest as well as some elements of the historical heritage of the House of Albret, and of the Court of Navarre. A must visit if you go through the Gers.

  • What remains of the castle of Henry IV is unfortunately devoid of garden and located in the city center. If inside, which you can visit quickly, is interesting we are disappointed with the whole.
