Although its construction was never finished, Cathedrale St-Just is a former cathedral and basilica minor--and, today, an official French national monument. The site has been a place of worship since 313 CE, shortly after Christianity became a legal religion. Nearly 1,000 years later, worships started to build a Gothic cathedral here. Not much remains of the building, but the existing structure is noteworthy. Two Roman columns from the former Forum, once used in the nave, are now in the cloister. The steeple has been largely restored, but little else of the architecture has been preserved, save for its white marble lintel and aedicule, which are on display at a nearby museum. This magnificent cathedral may not be amongst the biggest but certainly rates up there amongst them in terms of architecture and stained glass windows. Do visit the Treasury which is included in The..... more »
An unexpected surprise. This is a free visit and worth finding the time to do it. Peaceful and calming more »
Huge cathedral like they should be, gothic style, it has an exhibition for some rare pieces. Little bit dark for my taste. Lots of vigilant staff.
This Cathedral is regal outside and inside. There is a small garden inside which beautifies the environment. We stopped in the garden for a rest and also to admire the greenery. A very peaceful feeling in this religious ground. One top attraction in Narbonne.
It was absolutely marvellous!
Impressing cathedral. It's a must go in Narbonne. The interesting fact that the building was only partly finished which gives you a lot of insides of building cathedrals.
There was someone playing the organ while we were there, amazingly atmospheric
