Château des ducs de Bretagne, Nantes

You'll recognize the medieval Château des ducs de Bretagne by the bright white tufa stone that glistens in the sky as you approach it. This austere fortress is home to the Nantes History Museum and is the last castle of the Loire before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. Recent renovations allow you to stroll along the inner courtyard, revealing a 15th-century ducal palace in Renaissance style. In sharp contrast with its rough exterior walls, this castle radiates a certain elegance owed to its fine stone carvings. The rampart walk offers a number of viewpoints of the fortress and its interior buildings and across the city. In the grounds, stroll around the moat and surrounding magnolia gardens. • See especially at night. Nice friendly neighborhood, downtown architecture. I also recommend the Cathedral not far away

  • Unfortunately I was late I could just walk around in the yard, and observe it from the outside, I liked nice outside.

  • The Chateau is beautiful, but don't be disappointed to know right away that is not furnished but features the modern nice Nantes History Museum.

  • Chateau ws great place to visit, free to get into the grounds and the battlements, and entry inside was only 8€ per Adult and children under 18 were free. Lockers to put your bags and you got the money back. Coffee and drinks reasonably prices, food overpriced but easy to walk outside to local cafe/restaurant. Well worth a visit.
  • Even if the museum is closed it is still a very worth while walk around the castle. You can walk the outer wall and towers as well as the park the surrounds the castle. Look for giant carp/koi in the mote they battle the ducks for food.
  • Amazing château in heart of Nantes. Beutiful and offering get views of city. A must visit if in Nantes
  • Nice Castle which is free to walk around most of it including the ramparts. Quite a few steps so not great to haul strollers - leave them in the courtyard. Water park across the street as well.
  • Superb castle with a very very substantial exhibition on the city of Nantes. Very good price to enter.
