Chateau de Goulaine, Nantes

3.6
#3 of 9 in Historic Sites in Nantes
There is more than just castle at Chateau de Goulaine: there is a butterfly aviary, the LU Museum displaying the art and history of local biscuit brand Le Petit Beurre, and the oldest commercial vineyards in the world. The butterfly sanctuary awakes the child in you with it's friendly, fluttery residents. Biscuits may not be your cup of tea, but they are integral to the development of the city's local economy and the vintage posters are sure to sway to the pastry's side with their nostalgia for home.

This menagerie of curios and wines has belonged to the Goulaine family for over 1,000 years, with each generation adding their own special touch to the chateau’s exhibits. Fortunately, the must see exhibit is also the must drink exhibit. With the longest running tradition of wine-making, you’ll want to taste what was worth preserving through the ages. To find out how to plan a trip to Nantes, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • Romantic getaway. Want to read... we went to the Castle. If the price is high (€9), the guided tour is interactive and quality. Icing on the cake read where permanent exhibition we have pleasure to see and find the boxes of cakes from our childhood!

  • Exorbitant price (€9) for an hour's visit. READ Museum is rather a show, we would like more professional photos with advertising posters. The castle is very beautiful. The floors, ceilings and magnificent fireplaces. There is more butterflies.

  • excellent guided visit of castle. Butterfly house great fun. Good family visit.
  • Beautiful castle especially for wedding
  • The foundations of the castle date back to more than a thousand years. At that time, this medieval fortress was in charge of defending the Duchy, in the marches of Brittany. Today, the visitor discovers a magnificent Renaissance Castle built in tufa stone ("tuffeau") dating from the end of the 15th century. The walls of the Castle dominate the whole of medieval moats. The large garden à la française of two hectares is surrounded by the marshes of Goulaine, thousand five hundred hectares scheduled Natura 200

  • The LU Museum is a museum that contains only old advertising posters. There is unfortunately nothing on older manufacturing processes or anything about the plant. The castle is in him even a well-preserved

  • 29 euros at 4 on a non-guided tour blah blah.. .we have not learned much so well informed on schedules of visits guided... Plus, the place is fun for the kids with a quiz to do and different questionnaires along the tour. Otherwise beautiful, well maintained the castle is still inhabited, so the visit is done only on a part of Museum LU interesting and playful about 1 h 30 non guided tour
