Forteresse de Najac, Najac

In the Gothic chapel at Forteresse de Najac, stumble across a secret corridor hidden within the walls, linking the Romanesque tower to the spot where you stand. After making your escape, find the last of the Knights Templar, who were imprisoned behind these walls. Also known as Château de Najac, this 13th-century royal fortress brings you closer to the first English occupation, the Albigensian Crusade, the Hundred Years' War, the peasants' revolts, and the French Revolution. From the castle’s exterior, imagine the archers of old aiming through the tall, thin archères, the largest of any castle in the world at a height of 6.8 m (22.3 ft). • We travelled to Najac train from Toulouse (Tolosa). The train trip is very simple and fast enough, we did a full day on our own trip. From the train station you have to walk a stretch until you reach the village of Najac, which is slope above a gently sloping Hill. As soon as you reach the people one is immersed in the middle ages. We went by the side of the Church, which was closed, but could admire her outside and climbing its stairs. Then it's nice to walk down the main street of the village with its stoned and go admire the various houses. The interesting thing is that not is a village Comercial-turistico, which gives a note of authenticity to everything what you see there. As it was winter, the castle was closed, but we could see it from the outside and is the fortress, surrounded by greenery and some houses, located in the upper area of Najac and well preserved, and pretty. A village to not miss.

  • After having surveyed the small streets of this pretty little village, it must climb to the fortress. The site is great and allows you to discover the village seen from above. Prefer the visit with the guide, you will not regret it, it's exciting!
