Chateau de Murol, Murol

4.2
#1 of 6 in Things to do in Murol
As the first castle built on a basalt volcanic rock outcrop in the 12th century, Chateau de Murol provided surveillance of several roads overlooking what is now the town of Murol. It was reinforced in the 14th century by Guillaume de Sam who built the keep, a second chapel, and the eastern buildings. The inner castle boasts 10 m (33 ft) high walls built on a basalt base. Next to the keep connected to a smaller tower by a curtain wall, there are two chapels from the 13th and the 15th centuries. A ramp leads to a door decorated with Murol arms and the crest of the d'Estaing family. View remains of the gallery, kitchen, bakery, and several outbuildings; displays of medieval martial arts in the lower courtyard; and also a sound and light show about life in a medieval castle. • After leaving his vehicle at the parking access to the Castle by a small path that climbs well (between 5-10 minute walk). But we do not regret it! If possible choose a guided tour, take advantage still more so the details provided and other historical anecdotes make exciting tour! Do not hesitate to climb on the walkway as the view that is so over all of the city is worth a visit.

  • It takes courage to up there, but you will not be disappointed. We had the pleasure to visit with the Cook in the Lord! Finally, she is still very young for someone who has six centuries! Visit this castle to the 6 doors will allow you to go back in time, to understand that his position enabled him to resist attacks and discover a beautiful landscape from the top of the Dungeon. Good visit!

  • Beautiful view, but 9€ entry is just too much..
  • Cool
  • It's a very nice tour performed preferably in good weather (beautiful panoramic view on the solid mass of Sancy) who charge you a good part of the afternoon. In addition to the classic tour, several dramatised scenes spread out in different areas of the castle to discover its medieval history. Tickets combined with the visit to interesting torchlight despite slightly high prices overall. Visit torchlight friendly and entertaining.
