Trip Planner: Europe / France / Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes / Puy-de-Dome / Murol / Museums / Chateau de Murol
As the first castle built on a basalt volcanic rock outcrop in the 12th century, Chateau de Murol provided surveillance of several roads overlooking what is now the town of Murol. It was reinforced in the 14th century by Guillaume de Sam who built the keep, a second chapel, and the eastern buildings. The inner castle boasts 10 m (33 ft) high walls built on a basalt base. Next to the keep connected to a smaller tower by a curtain wall, there are two chapels from the 13th and the 15th centuries. A ramp leads to a door decorated with Murol arms and the crest of the d'Estaing family. View remains of the gallery, kitchen, bakery, and several outbuildings; displays of medieval martial arts in the lower courtyard; and also a sound and light show about life in a medieval castle. Chateau de Murol is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Murol Edition.

Show "participatory" of Knights at the foot of the Castle fun and informative. Falconers. Discovery of the daily life of the time with many actors. We were delighted the visit and all personnel "comedian" available to the shows.View original

We were there in family, with children and teens, and everyone to loved. Finally, even if you have to climb to get there, this castle is really nice and the view is magnificent. DoView original
Dorian H.Very nice site. Funny show. For babies, avoid the stroller and prefer to wear baby. Please allow at least 3 hours for the visit. A lot of stairs which some narrow. Not accessible to people with disabilities.View original
Cap'tain ChampiGood visit! The animations were friendly, especially with the blacksmith and the main show! The markup of the animations should be indetifie on the ground a little disappointed, because the price varies depending on the day you just: _ simple visits (the cheapest, Wednesday and Saturday) _ tours (Sunday) _ animated visits (the one I made, the more expensive, the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, probably the most interesting) ⚠ big downside : no access for disabled people (no monte load...), and avoid the strollers (baby carriers recommended!) Prices are around 10 euros for adults (depending on the type of visit, price varies), and there are two "children" rates to predict: water (lots), a camera, a trip to the toilet (if possible, because there is no toilet in the Castle (is there at the bottom of the Castle)), a little money for a refreshment , or to buy a souvenir (mainly for children).View original
Sohane Dav'dMagnificent Castle, super nice animations and troupe very pleasant and professional, just great shows! Access which can be a bit steep, but nothing more. . Beautiful view in height. . Memory of a successful young with the presentation of his parchment, thanks to the small soldier 😉View original
Michael martineauThe visit is excellent. The site is beautiful and the view from the top of the tower is sumptuous. Many thanks to the actors who make a living here.View original
Landry bareauVery beautiful castle, view from the lookout tower, to visit during the opening animated, the shows are cool with a touch of humour. Must see if you are passing.View original
