Cité du Train - Musée français du chemin de fer
Train enthusiasts can hardly resist a stop at Cité du Train - Musée français du chemin de fer also called "Cité du Train", the largest railway museum in the world. Located in Mulhouse, the museum features an exhibition display by the famed French architect, François Seigneur, called "Le siècle d'or du chemin de fer" (The golden century of the railway). Step through time as Seigneur traces historical rail events from 1860 to 1940. Wander from one exhibit to the next in semi-darkness, and experience the evolution of rail technology and the effect it had on those whose lives revolved around rail travel and the industry as a career. We were absolutely impressed with the work that was done by these volunteers. They managed to restore all the beauty to the locomotives, trains and all the railway equipment ... . We took a leap backwards by rediscovering the trains of our childhood.View original -

The exhibits on display are exciting and unique. It is a pity that everything is labelled in French. You want to be modern and there is a blackboard everywhere with a QR code to download: Friends: Who does this in the museum. There was a misconceived thought. And the paths are long and tiring. There is a small stream of red lines, but only for small children. The halls are kept dark, a pity, a little more light would make the exhibits shine better, the toilet facilities are all on one side of the complex. If you're soaking and you're at the other end, then fast. Where the toilets are should be remembered beforehand. And one more thing: On no toilet you will find a hook to hang the coat or jacket. And if the ground is wet - what then! I would say. NOT LIKE THAT. The management is required to procure hooks for a few euros and to silence them. Once you've dropped your jacket on the wet ground, it's a lasting memory. The ordering process of hot food in the restaurant is habitual-needy but the flame cakes are fresh and very crispy and delicious.View original -

Awesome place to discover a lot of train related stuff from the past. Fair prices. One star less because of the low average restaurant food. however, friendly and helpful stuff there too. Can recommend!

Absolutely love this train museum. There is a mini train ride on to take you around the trains. Love the video on TGV and also love the train models and display. Massive space for kids to run around. Adore the souvenir shop with a good collection of books. Although would be lovely to have more options for magnet. Additionally didn’t have the chance to explore all of the museum for some parts were closed as it was still running winter schedule in March.

Nice collection of a lot of trains. We just hope to have more lights at the start of the tour...'twas just a but too dark.
-
Incredibly extensive collection of French railway history and a very pleasant surprise was how uncrowded it was.
-
Nice place visit, and a lot of things to learn. Have a good fun!
