Chateau de Montsegur, Montsegur

Castle
Perched 1,200 m (3,900 ft) in the air, the grounds of the current Chateau de Montsegur have a fiery past. More than 200 Cathar priests were found dead in this legendary place, burned after being accused as heretics for their Christian faith. Though it is described as one of the Cathar castles, the current chateau is actually from a later period and not the work of the Cathars. The fortress was remodeled during the latter half of the 13th century. Seven centuries later, flames of the past still fuel contemplation and rumor at this site. Take a guided tour in English or walk the grounds without a guide at your leisure. • We decided to visit this wonderful site a day of great sun with our 2 children... very nice place but we didn't know it was paying... expensive to see a ruin I find... I can understand paying for a castle as one of Foix who is still standing with "things" to see inside but... What are ramparts; or have a slightly more reasonable price if it is to maintain the site I can understand... In short, and the price is relatively disproportionate once it is 4... children less than 7 years could benefit at least a free rate I think... so disappointment, we went back down live, disappointed children too...

  • An essential site for understanding the history of the tragedy of the Cathars, the visit with the guide is indispensable to understand the history of this heresy. the price of entry to the castle includes the visit of the Museum located in the village, also nice to visit
