Chateau de Montsegur, Montsegur

(4.6/5 based on 460+ reviews on the web)
Perched 1,200 m (3,900 ft) in the air, the grounds of the current Chateau de Montsegur have a fiery past. More than 200 Cathar priests were found dead in this legendary place, burned after being accused as heretics for their Christian faith. Though it is described as one of the Cathar castles, the current chateau is actually from a later period and not the work of the Cathars. The fortress was remodeled during the latter half of the 13th century. Seven centuries later, flames of the past still fuel contemplation and rumor at this site. Take a guided tour in English or walk the grounds without a guide at your leisure. • It is too much to pay between 5 and 10 euros for at least climb a mountain about 30 minutes and find a pile of ruins of upon arrival. However the view is nice and worth

  • official website of the Castle, it was not clear that it was closed...; We have so defied slightly wet weather... and the slightly slippery climb... to find home stand empty (in the end, climb free, positive point of the day!). Balance sheet, a beautiful ballad, a panorama a bit clogged, and when even a disappointment... Fortunately there are a few explanatory signs... Too bad so that the web site mentions not clearly to be on having a guide, should be systematically call. Cannot find the Museum in the village of Montségur... directional signs must be put in the summer? the wooden planks of the threshold for access to the Castle looked fine damaged... wish that they be changed before next season...
