  • Nice, beautiful furnished Castle which can be visited freely, it is a pity that the treasure room indicated on the booklet is more open and that the information be indicated anywhere (especially as the rate is not reduced as long). This isn't one of the most famous, but if you're in the neighborhood, have a look, it is worth a visit. The Church nearby is also very nice.

  • Pretty Castle, a little exterior maintenance, nice view from the ramparts. Some access are a bit difficult for the elderly however

  • At the tip of the spur that dominates the concavity of the Claude, on its right bank, Foulques Nerra (black) is build by his captain Roger said "the little devil" to 1005, a mighty fortress not far from that of Montrichard, which he also controls. The Dungeon is located at the top of the escarpment. Maybe among the 1st built in stone of Touraine, this building which it remains only the west wall is a contemporary of Langeais. In the twelfth, Montrésor fell into the hands of Henri II Plantagenêt, King of England. It is likely that since Foulques Nerra, the Castle always remained under the control of the counts of Anjou. It is from this period date the construction of the towers of the chatelet of entry as well as the North & East of the enclosure parts. Philippe Auguste resumes temporarily the fortress to the English in 1188 but the fief remains an English possession by André de Chauvigny, companion of Richard the Lionheart during the 3rd crusade. At the beginning of the thirteenth, the Castle returns permanently to the Crown of France, until the Bueil family bought it in 1378. Jean IV de Bueil committed important work. Alongside the ruins of the fortress is the Renaissance Castle of Batarnay, Chamberlain under Louis XI, Charles VIII, Louis XII and François 1st. It is built in the 1490s.

  • Montresor has an arrangement with several other chateaux. Buy one full price ticket at one and the others will give a reduced price if the original full price ticket is presented. My advice is to organize your trip so you visit Montresor last. The ticket seller will confiscate the original ticket and you will not be able to get the discounts at the other chateaux.
  • Very nice place. One of the anciest castles in the region (XI century).
  • Beautiful place, one of the best in France!
  • Beautiful small village, and very quiet. The chateau guards over the town, and is visible from just about everywhere.
  • One of our favourite chateaux to visit in the Southern Touraine area of the Loire Valley.Real lived-in feel (because it is) with well furnished rooms. You have the added bonus of its setting in one of the 'Les-Plus-Beaux-Villages-de-France'
