Chateau de Montresor, Montresor

#8 of 23 in Parks in Loire Valley
Come to Chateau de Montresor to view a rare collection of French and English 19th century firearms and 16th - 19th century weapons. Built by Fulk Nerra starting in 1005, this medieval fortress has a 15th century Renaissance mansion built on the grounds and a garden surrounding the property. The original furniture and interior from 1849, including trophies representing hunting and sporting awards from around the world, can be found to this day. Your admission includes entrance to the romantic garden and park built in the 19th century, complete with flowers, exotic trees, delicate fountains, and sculptures by old master artists. This is a living museum; all of the ornaments and furniture is still there to see. Take your time and enjoy the sights.  more »

Castle outwardly charming but a little disappointing internally: the scenery and a bit dark woodwork tarnish the quality of the paintings and objects presented (lots in relation to hunting). The visit is not uninteresting however: we have a very beautiful views of the charming village of Montresor.

Beautiful small village, and very quiet. The chateau guards over the town, and is visible from just about everywhere.

One of our favourite chateaux to visit in the Southern Touraine area of the Loire Valley.Real lived-in feel (because it is) with well furnished rooms. You have the added bonus of its setting in one of the 'Les-Plus-Beaux-Villages-de-France'
