  • Good if you speak French, but you'll feel lost looking for captions in other languages. Bring a dictionary!
  • Beautiful museum, significantly biggerr than expected. I recommend splitting the visit in 2 parts, starting from ground zero and older pieces. Make a break for lunch and go back with energies for the newer pieces situated in the top floors. Also we were on a Wednesday Monday so the museum was almost all for us. What a pleasant visit!
  • Fascinating, beautiful and very large collection of Art, very well displayed. Includes modern pieces, particularly donated by Soulanges. There's a very interesting film about Bazille, an Impressionist and a Montpellian. The portraits by Fabre himself are particularly good at capturing the sitter's personality. I'd recommend looking at the back history of the ladies he painted on Wikipedia as you go round - he knew some very interesting women!
  • We've been to the permanent collection and it was ok. Paintings and sculptures from the 16th century to our days, mainly Dutch and French. However, nothing really mind-blowing. There is also a section on contemporary art.
  • Went in to see the current special exhibition - Francis Bacon/Bruce Nauman. Face to face.. Brilliant but finishes on 5th November 2017. If either of these artists interest you it is a must.
