  • This Abbey was originally a monastery of Benedictine women, founded in the 7th century by Saint-Philibert. Destroyed by the Vikings, it was relieved by Richard II of Normandy. It was abandoned by the nuns in 1792. In 14975, the city undertook renovation work, including the reconstruction of the beautiful cloister. The Church is splendid with a mix of Gothic and roman. She kept a Bell Tower from the 11th century. Visit to see a didactic exhibition "Heart of Abbey" and in the refectory of the Gothic style, takes place a beautiful exhibition. the only downside, the poor quality of the projected slide show. Why not propose a movie on the road of the abbeys Normandy?

  • A beautiful Abbey in the city center. Unfortunately it was taken over by city, thereby it is not bound by religious. However it has been completely renovated and well fact very interesting visit. Small flat not go a Thursday day of large market of the city and all around Abbey so difficult access and also for parking lovely town beside the Havre Montivilliers

  • The Abbey of Montivilliers is located in the centre of the commune. When we went there, it was both Thursday, day of walking around the site, but also a period of important works in the city. Therefore, both more than world to take advantage of the market, and more traffic and parking problems on the outskirts of downtown. Our advice: don't go there on Thursday, or accept the idea to park far because even paying places nearby the Abbey are occupied. This completed event, the Abbey visit with audioguide that narrates the history of places and the religious communities in Normandy. First part with visit of the cloister and rooms surrounding him. Then, continue into rooms and looks much more modern where it is more focused on the past of the city and religious architecture. The film "Lights of abbeys" is nice, pity that the names of the places where the shots are taken are not indicated during the screening (they are on the panel presentation, but without specifying if they are in the same order where at what time the film goes from one to the other). As stated in some of the comments, the Abbey Church can be visited, but is not in the Museum. It was closed during our visit in Montivilliers. A step that will suit those interested in history.

  • A beautiful place to discover. I loved the modernity of the visit with the audio guide, videos and models and the side heritage with the buildings of the middle ages. My son loved being able to dress up for the visit. Very nice idea for kids!
