Lascaux II, Montignac
(2.5/5 based on 1,500+ reviews on the web)
Lascaux II features replicas of the famed Lascaux Cave's 17,000-year-old Paleolithic paintings, which are only 200 m (650 ft) away. Discovered in 1940 and opened to the public in 1948, the original cave attracted 1,200 visitors a day. By 1955, carbon dioxide and light had begun to damage the paintings. In 1963, the cave was shut down to preserve the art. The museum opened in 1983. Look for a replica of the cave's Great Hall of Bulls and the Painted Gallery. A visit to Lascaux II represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Montignac itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

  • An excessively long wait to see copies: just ridiculous. In addition the guide is compulsory, we wonder why! It is even more scandalous that a mass of people in good faith make a long tail to see copies. How the templele dealers are at work... still bravo, suckers thank you. And now Lascaux No. I don't know how, the phinances pump continues

  • A nice visit well done. To book a visit schedule makes it possible to organize if there are other sites to see.

  • The site is magical! The visit is accessible to children and adults, the explanations are very clear and fun. A big thank you to the guide who gave us this moment.
