Lascaux II, Montignac

(1,500+ reviews on the web)
Cave
Lascaux II features replicas of the famed Lascaux Cave's 17,000-year-old Paleolithic paintings, which are only 200 m (650 ft) away. Discovered in 1940 and opened to the public in 1948, the original cave attracted 1,200 visitors a day. By 1955, carbon dioxide and light had begun to damage the paintings. In 1963, the cave was shut down to preserve the art. The museum opened in 1983. Look for a replica of the cave's Great Hall of Bulls and the Painted Gallery. A visit to Lascaux II represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Montignac itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

  • Equipped with a helmet and a Tablet, the departures of visits follows every 6 minutes chrono! CRO magnon seems far away at first but gradually through the guide Magali we imagine in this cave 20,000 years ago! Work has been enormous and the workshop is a mine of information. Hard to leave but the 3D cinema is waiting for us! Only downside: the helmet sometimes sizzling...

  • A beautiful machine under that don't absolutely not transported me to prehistory. What a waste! Yet savvy students of screens have not hooked to this charade. Lascaux II and return it to us!
