Abbaye de Fontenay, Montbard

(4.8/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
One of the oldest and most completely intact Cistercian abbeys in Europe, Abbaye de Fontenay was built in 1118 with a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Although slightly rundown, the original complex comprising the church, dormitory, cloister, chapter house, caldarium, dovecote, and forge all retain their original architecture, except the refectory. • Unique vestige of Cistercian heritage. Nice tour highlighting the different buildings. Too bad that some parts are not allowed visitors. Water Kingdom here in master and you rocked throughout the visit. Visit in the off-season so no guided tour but provided issue enough details you the history of places.

  • Visit of a great monument to the summer season. A spacious play area for children who like running and making their own history. On our side, thanks to the super guide that mixes narrative to a few spikes of humour, the story of the Abbey becomes accessible. We allow even interrogating the guide because taken by the places you want to take ownership and friendly guide responds enthusiastically. The owners invested to make the unforgettable place teams to the cleat.
