Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web
One of the oldest and most completely intact Cistercian abbeys in Europe, Abbaye de Fontenay was built in 1118 with a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Although slightly rundown, the original complex comprising the church, dormitory, cloister, chapter house, caldarium, dovecote, and forge all retain their original architecture, except the refectory. • This place is very peaceful and there is a lot to see. There are a few displays but lots of the rooms are just empty. It's a relaxing place to visit.
  • The Abbey of Fontenay is a monument of great beauty, which needs no ornament to look sublime. Pure Romanesque art has its followers, and the abbatial is a pure beauty. Burgundy has always been steeped in history, and the Abbey of Fontenay proves... Preserved from destruction, the buildings from the beginning of the 13th century passed different periods to reflect its beauty... And it is not for nothing that Unesco has classified the Abbey to the world heritage of humanity... A monument that is worth a visit when you are in Burgundy... and worth the price of admission (€10) worth! A cultural peace without equal!

  • We move in the corner and decided to go for a ride on a beautiful autumn day. A beautiful setting for a cultural tour, and also nice garden.
