Create an itinerary including Mont Saint-Michel
For stunning medieval architecture that is surprisingly intact and well preserved, visit Mont Saint-Michel. You'll be amazed by the abbey's staggering architectural marvels dating back to the Roman Empire, as well as the visible time progression of this massive megastructure, which takes you on a journey towards more Gothic styles. The monastery and abbey are at the very top of the town, supplying panoramic views of the entire island and surrounding waters. You can book a guided tour or, if you prefer to wander on your own, pick up an audio guide in English. The welcome center also offers a free printed brochure that makes a great souvenir. • This place is absolutely amazing and well worth the visit. Make sure you visit the abbey. Do the walk on foot instead of sitting on a rammed bus.

  • What to write about such a famous and well-visited place such as this one?! We bought entrance tickets online before we came here and included an audio guide. The entrance is all the way to the top of the island which can be a bit steep but beautiful. If you have online tickets you can skip the queue at the ticket counter and go straight to the desk for the audio guides. The abbey itself is nice to see but interior-wise nothing special. The USP for us was the terrace on the very top with amazing views over the ocean, bay and land. The audio guides make you press numbers to listen to the history of a specific area but the numbers on the walls were often not there so you had to guess when and what number to press for listening. Go here if you have time (approx. 3 hours) and curious to see an abbey from the inside. Other than not much added value in my opinion.
  • The Abbey is a beautiful place and the free bus access runs frequently. We had read it took an hour by bus which isnt true it took 5 minutes and they were very regular. The architecture and views were amazing once we got to the top but it was a right hike. Not wheelchair friendly unless they don't make that obvious. There's loads of tourist shops and tat but you buy what you need but some stuff not cheap.
  • I recommend getting tickets online a day before, for a desired time slot. When we arrived there was a huge line for buying the tickets on the spot, and we just passed everybody. We also took the audio guide and it’s really good to understand a bit of history around it. You park the car 35min walk away, and then take a free shuttle across the bridge, that takes you to the bottom of the abbey. The way up is very tiny and packed with people so be careful of pickpockets. Besides this super charming and cute little village under the church!
  • Beautiful Abbey that you have to visit if you in the area. The abbey is wonderful. The tickets can be reserved online. I think it’s the best option to get the tickets, this way you won’t queue on entry and definitely going to get in. The guests with disabilities and carers are entitled to free ticket. Unfortunately the abbey is not accessible with the wheelchair. The abbey is so crowded and has so many steps that even a fit person will struggle. There is so much to see at the abbey, so you’ll probably spend few hours there. I am not going to write more about it as you have to see it for yourself. It’s definitely worth a visit. Don’t miss the opportunity. You won’t regret it.
  • The building itself is very interesting and it is well conserve, the problem is visiting it. You can pay extra for and audio guide, or you can go there on a tour. If you go by yourself without a guide or the audio guide, you can’t understand anything about the sites. There aren’t any descriptions of anything, there are only names identifying the audio guide selection, but nothing else written anywhere… This is the worst place I’ve been in terms of explaining what is the place, or the piece of architecture you are seeing. No one told me when I bought the ticket without the audio guide that the place was so undocumented… it is really poor… If they don’t bother to put signs, at least the audio guide should be included on the ticket… Also this place is not advisable for people with mobility difficulties (no ramps, nor lifts) and for people that can’t hear, as there isn’t anyway to read information on the places. Needs improvements on that and also on the tact of the guides making tours that are very unpleasant. Otherwise it is a beautiful place, with two toilets.
