A world-renowned laboratory, Four Solaire highlights solar energy with its research and education efforts in solar phenomena. The site contains one of the two largest solar furnaces in the world. The solar oven uses the concentration of solar rays by reflecting mirrors--it captures the rays first through a set of movable mirrors and then directs them to a second set of "hub" mirrors. The rays then converge toward a small target at the top of a central tower. This huge solar oven can create extremely high temperatures in seconds, and it serves as a useful tool in the study of solar energy and its applications, heat transfer, and thermal shock. The facility also provides educational services for visitors ranging from elementary school pupils to college students and professional scientists. The guide, passionate about the topic, explains well the modes of operation and practical applications of the solar oven. It's too bad that our policies are not more interested in the development of these technologies. In addition the pots cooked in the oven are pretty!

I discovered a place abandoned, poorly maintained... A short but interesting tour (45 minutes), a little too simple compared to the price paid of €6 per person.
