  • Outrageous! Anti-TOURISTIQUE! We wanted to visit the Citadel of Montlouis a Sunday morning in September 2016; but signs with "do not enter - military Zone!" and "tickets on sale at the Tourist Office!" unfortunately closed! We will never go back!

  • Arrival took place with the train Jaune, train station is about 10-15 minutes walk to the village. The town of Mont-Louis himself is, at least the end of September, not just a tourist highlight. The number of restaurants and shops is very manageable and the village itself has seen better days, in contrast to many other places in the region, the place doesn't do much to present themselves to tourists. The attachment above the village is a very imposing structure, you can circumnavigate it outside and look at the various fortifications, some basic knowledge of a guide are helpful to understand the construction. Access to the fixing of the place is seen on the back of the system (15 minutes walk), the access is possible only with a guided tour, you can book them at the tourist office. We have booked a guided tour at the tourist office, this was held in the French language, while the guide spoke so quickly, that we not more came with our otherwise adequate knowledge of French. Of the inner Citadel, you get not much to see except the courtyard with the local buildings. The fortress is used as a training centre of the French army, could enter only the former fountain building, photographing inside the fortress is also prohibited if you could photograph outside for the same reason I don't know. Because during our presence took place inside and outside training of soldiers I left it better.

  • It's a medieval fortress with its village around it. Although it's not permited to go inside the fortress, the surrounding are very nice and worth a visit.
