Musee du Desert, Mialet

(100+ reviews on the web)
Specialty Museum Museum
Once the house of Roland Laporte, the Camisard leader, Musee du Desert traces the history of Protestantism in the region, specifically in the Cévennes. The name is a reference to the Désert period, the time during which the practice of Protestant faith was illegal in France (1685-1787). You'll see a wide range of artifacts and documents of the period, including the preaching chairs that the pastors used, designed so that they could be easily transported and hidden. The noteworthy historical artifacts and the well-preserved village setting make this a popular museum. Put Musee du Desert and other Mialet attractions into our Mialet itinerary planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Catholics VS Protestants, why, we don't know it even today. However this pretext gives a superb tour and immersion in Protestantism. Do not hesitate to take the speaker for the guided tour: it is at the top. The village of Mas Soubeyran is a Pearl of architecture Cévennes.
