Categories: Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web
Château de Germolles is situated in Burgundy, not far from Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saône. It is the best preserved residence of the Dukes of Burgundy. Built during the second part of the 14th century, this château is important for the history of the region. Furthermore it is a rare example of such a well preserved residence in France in the 14th and the beginning of the 15th centuries, when most of the princely palaces of that period have almost entirely disappeared. This exceptional site evokes court life in France on the eve of the Renaissance. It has been listed as a Historic monument since 1989.

  • Beautiful afternoon around 3 pm. Tour group caught up in extremis. And immediately the co-owner speaker you integrated letteralement to the history of the place. A speech of the most complete and accurate on the time of the Duchy of Burgundy and Flanders. An enchantment. Very beautiful murals of the time of marguerite of Burgundy and Philip the bold. Inside nothing too remarkable but what brio in the discourse of the master of the House. See for his passion for history and the old stones.

  • Absolutely brilliant. The tour guide kindly took three of us around, and did an absolutely incredible job of bringing everything to life - its rich history and architectural intricacy, and all his hands-on experience of its faithful restoration. How much love and attention has been put into all this work shows through at every step of the way. This was one of the highlights of our holiday, and I can't thank and congratulate him enough.
  • A waterlogged place of history for understanding so many thing in the history of the region.
