Chateau De Germolles, Mellecey

Château de Germolles is situated in Burgundy, not far from Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saône. It is the best preserved residence of the Dukes of Burgundy. Built during the second part of the 14th century, this château is important for the history of the region. Furthermore, it is a rare example of such a well-preserved residence in France in the 14th and the beginning of the 15th centuries, when most of the princely palaces of that period have almost entirely disappeared. This exceptional site evokes court life in France on the eve of the Renaissance. It has been listed as a Historic monument since 1989.

  • Why excellent? 1 - The historical interest of the site is undeniable. It is clearly back in the atmosphere of the Dukes of Burgundy of the House of Valois. And the work of restoration of the place is remarkable. 2 - The quality of the visit and the competence of the guides should be identified. It really grows and get out a bit of the usual clichés on the middle ages. Here, it is not accompanied by a trainee trained on the job. 3 - The framework is particularly bucolic and we walk with pleasure in the gardens, which include a number of amazing botanical curiosities. We'd be good afternoon in the Sun with a book!

  • Very interesting tour in French and English with the owner who is passionate and informative about 14th Century Europe.
  • Absolutely brilliant. The tour guide kindly took three of us around, and did an absolutely incredible job of bringing everything to life - its rich history and architectural intricacy, and all his hands-on experience of its faithful restoration. How much love and attention has been put into all this work shows through at every step of the way. This was one of the highlights of our holiday, and I can't thank and congratulate him enough.
  • Well worth a visit. The owner from places is an enthusiast who knows his subject well. Beautiful restoration and conservation of the Castle.

  • Very interesting and pleasant visit. It's a private castle, whose visit is assured by the owners passionate about the place. The vastness of the upcoming work give a little dizzy... but the work already accomplished is fantastic.
