Plage de la Pointe Rouge, Marseille

2.6
#5 of 8 in Parks in Marseille
One of Marseille's rare sandy beaches, Plage de la Pointe Rouge provides a perfect place to relax and soak up some sunshine on your vacation. You'll find plenty of amenities here to help you make the most of your visit, including a swimming pool, showers, and an upmarket marina. If the water is too cold for swimming, rent a pedalo or jet ski for offshore exploration. An array of no-frills restaurants lines the beach front, serving up sandwiches, pizza, salads, and grilled meats. The fare may be basic, but the views are spectacular. It was a nice, family, sand beach for children, not dangerous because we walk away. Today it's just half of the beach where he must fight for his towel, restaurants have too invaded the beach. It's nice the restaurants by the beach, but not when they leave more room to settle. In addition some ask you to leave at 6 pm to set up their tables to the edge of the water, unacceptable!

In the summer the beach is crowded, besides not being one of the most beautiful beaches of Marseille. I don't recommend a visit.

Where to stay in Marseille

The Old Port is near the water, seafood restaurants, and the not-to-be-missed museums. Hotels with sea views come with a price tag to match, though. For more affordable accommodations and local character, check out hostels and rental apartments in the Panier district. The Canebière neighborhood is in the heart of the action. For a more nature-oriented locale, a hotel near Garde Hill offers the nearby botanical gardens.
