Parc Balneaire du Prado, Marseille

#2 of 6 in Beaches in Marseille
Facing The Prado Seaside Park, Parc Balneaire du Prado, is a gorgeous shoreline constructed by Defferre. It was construsted keeping in mind the disturbance the overflowing waves caused to vehicles on the adjacent roads. The changes made have created a pleasant environment where it is not uncommon to see families walking enthusiasts and kites to indulge their passion. The beach is clean and is monitored everyday. It hosts a number of special carnivals and events every year. • System of beaches located on the South of the city, easily accessible from the Centre by public transport. The beach, well equipped, is composed of gravel that you stick everywhere and makes the water a nice beige colour. Much better on the rocks, but not really. Finally, we were invited to leave by the police who were chasing some bad guys (actually then taken after run-up along the beach). ERGO ... better go in Cassis. Much better.

  • What better way to walk in love at the seaside, hand in hand, hair blowing in the wind, with your back your small bag containing beach towels, cream sunscreen, glasses, books... in short everything what you can put in a bag ^^. Small tap dance at the feet so here we started for our greatest pleasure: Beach Sun sea < 3 one part fabulous, clean, easy parking if you go there by car (with charge).

  • Difficult to judge only on this huge Seaside Park created in the mid-70 's. There is much grass and lots of greenery, ample parking, playground, free showers, first aid, bars and establishments. However the beach is not that great: the kitten home is terrible, it sticks everywhere and makes the water Milky rather than clear as in the rest of the city. From 14 becomes crowded and impractical, single solution take refuge on the breakwater.

  • Decent, large beach with convenient access by bus. Not a sand beach, it's covered with small pebbles. There is a large grassy area behind the beach which is great for picnics or games. Some bathrooms and changing stalls, but not as many as other beaches. There's a large concrete wall with steps separating this beach from the next, which is also a good place to sit and enjoy the views. Usually some food trucks nearby.
  • Good for swimming, relaxing and beach volleyball. There is a big Casino supermarket, bus stations and city bike station, all close to the beach. The night bus to Vieux Port usually works until midnight. Sometimes the lights of the beach are off at night time!!
  • Terrible dirty stinky place. I do not recommend it. Some people miss cleaning and human being habits. I saw excrements in the changing cabines couple of times and you can smell urine in them as well. I was also surprised that the beach coverage is made from a gravel. I am unsure whether that is natural as well. Very disappointed.
  • Amazing place to relax and enjoy the weather. Lots of parking space and nice atmosphere.
  • Very nice beaches near the city. Good options to lunch too.

Where to stay in Marseille

The Old Port is near the water, seafood restaurants, and the not-to-be-missed museums. Hotels with sea views come with a price tag to match, though. For more affordable accommodations and local character, check out hostels and rental apartments in the Panier district. The Canebière neighborhood is in the heart of the action. For a more nature-oriented locale, a hotel near Garde Hill offers the nearby botanical gardens.
