Overlooking the old Port and offering a magnificent panorama, Pharo of the Palace and its gardens were offered to the city of Marseille by the Empress Eugenie, at the end of a big trial. The Palace houses mainly Congress and is not open to the public as a result. On the other hand, the gardens are freely accessible and even if they offer only maintained lawns, the panorama offered by the place actually a must of Marseille!

Nothing for the incredible view of the old port, the fort St. John and Mucem, a detour to the top of the Park is necessary. However the Palace does not visit.

Peaceful and beautiful setting with lovely views of the entire area. Wouldn't mind having a conference here at all. The park on the grounds has an art sculpture and built-in seating. Great place for a picnic. There's also a small carousel and cafe on one side. No dogs allowed.

It offers a beautiful scenic view of the port in Marseille. Bring a book or a drink and absorb the stunning scenery. There's also a large green field to lie down, play soccer or just watch people go by.

Where to stay in Marseille

The Old Port is near the water, seafood restaurants, and the not-to-be-missed museums. Hotels with sea views come with a price tag to match, though. For more affordable accommodations and local character, check out hostels and rental apartments in the Panier district. The Canebière neighborhood is in the heart of the action. For a more nature-oriented locale, a hotel near Garde Hill offers the nearby botanical gardens.
