Calanque du Sugiton, Marseille

#5 of 48 in Outdoors in Marseille
The Calanque de Sugiton is one of the numerous calanques located between Marseille and Cassis. While quite small, Sugiton is perhaps the most known of all Marseille Calanques, simply because it can be easily accessed by hikers, starting from Luminy University Campus, and because it is open to tourists even during hot season, unlike most Calanques. In fact during summer most of the Calanques are closed because of high fire risk.A small beach can be found at the extremity of the calanque.

If you want to rest and comfort don't need to here to go)) but if you want the true primordial beauty and ready that have long to go, often uphill and even climb on the rocks-if you're ready, stocked with water and sunscreen, and enjoy This generous gift of nature! Calanques greatfull! To get here is not easy, for example, we got off the bus for a couple of stops early and so I had to go even longer and more, but when we saw the Calanques, it was all already irrelevant. Do not repeat our mistakes-leaving you need near the park entrance, in theory you should be able to see the entrance of the bus. Be sure to bring water, not less than 1 litre and sunscreen! It is advisable to take some food, so as to kalanok to go around 2:00 and lightest sandwich will come in very handy. Shade here a little, at least it is difficult to find, or it already occupied by somebody else. Be prepared for the fact that water go nekomformtno-hurt to walk on stones) I think, which is here to attend a yacht for their water, food and shade. So when the ability to manage the yacht and the presence of international rights, you can rent a yacht in Marseille and reach kalanok by sea for some 40 minutes and stand there at least a day. If I am in Marseille, necessarily pojde again. Calanques is difficult, but unforgettable!

I really wanted to do this Post because I found the Calancas of Sugiton in Marseille a beautiful place to meet to solve visiting Marseilles – southern France. Initially I and my friend wanted to do the trail of Calanca of d'en vau, but fate not to mention luck; ended up taking us to the Calanca of Sugiton. It was kind of hard to find because in the southern regions of France are not all people who speak English. The Portuguese then they don't understand very well. So, when it comes to a place where we were without GPS; the chance of getting lost was great. This, on a track outside of your country is not feasible. There is also the difficulty that there are a wide variety of trails for several calancas with varying degree of difficulty and time for different achievements. But everything came out in the best possible way-thank God! The steps to do the trail of Calanca of Sugiton are simple: starting from the local well known Port Viex in Marseille; We chose to take the subway in the neighborhood Saint-Charles-Jules Guede Station on the red line and down at the station Perier. The journey does not last more than 5 minutes. Then just look for the nearest exit I ever will see the bus stop. You have to get the paragraph 21 the green line until the Luminy Science Faculty (Faculty of Sciences of Luminy). (In google maps you can find easy, easy this path). Then just wait for the bus to arrive at the final point. This College is the end point of the path for this need not worry. This route takes about 50 minutes. In our case we just down a little before, because we saw a green card in a big building written Luminy, and we think it was, but it was just one of her buildings which by the way is huge! We had then to take another bus that didn't take. On the final point right there is a trailer selling snacks that you see still on the bus. The entrance to the National Park of the Calanques is just above this trailer. There are several trails. One of longer duration that leads to the town of Cassis. But for convenience we opted for the easier trail of Sugiton. Are more or less 1:30 to go hiking, and 1:30 to return. I think it could be done in a shorter time, but as the location is gorgeous; We stopped several times. We need to focus on the track, because as I said, there are several forks for several others. The Calanque of Sugiton you always follows right up to a point where arrives in a fork to climb to spot him in a gazebo. Then you choose to visit the Observatory which was not the case, or down to your left while remaining right to reach Calanca of Sugiton and put your tootsies in the wonderful waters of the Mediterranean. The waters in the period April 2017 are ice-cold to Brazilian standards, even more than the Lakes region of Rio de Janeiro. For this we have not had as we bathe. The difference is that there are a number of prainhas stone, and sand not what is a differential beautiful situation. In the lobby of the park they provide you a map that helps to guide you. Can be crossed with various other people who make the journey, Yes, this is a pretty Park visited, but, as it is a tourist site; Many also have no notion of the true path. Several people stopped us to ask if that was the path to another Calanca-of Sormiou; What did we think we were on the wrong track. Important to take lunch, and plenty of water, because it comes to a secluded location and you will not find on the way (at least in this trail of Sugiton) bars and restaurants. It is a park of environmental protection. The view is breathtaking and the ride is quiet light difficulty.

This is the message that I just sent to the natural park of coves: "I just made a hike with my daughter on the hiking trail between her Cove Sugiton and Morgiou (6 red on the map IGN"Carriages from Marseille to Cassis")." I wanted to point out a very dangerous place that should be noted and secure until he had a serious accident. Before accessing Morgiou, we indeed met a group with a guide who told us that the passage that scared us very was previously equipped with a string. This passage is indicated on the map with a triangle as "tricky". It is more sensitive. Very little support and on the side of rock. We have done it and more in the rain! I'm cold in the back after the fact. The guide told us completing this passage with a rope, as for us we only had our hands! This passage should be clearly indicated before embarking on this passage. For example on the side of Sugiton on the sign before switching to scale and on the side of Morgiou. It should be indicated that there is a very tricky that requires a rope. If it had been mentioned we would not have chosen this passage. And equipment missing (the string referred to by the met guide) should be replaced. The guide told us that the GR stopped theoretically even to this delicate passage: should this be mentioned at the start of this path on the side of Sugiton and Morgiou. Please tell me that the necessary will be done because the lives of hikers is at stake! "I ensure broad dissemination of this information." The location is also great. We came up with the push of Morgiou safe where we were tremendously welcome to Nautic Bar: kindness, towels ready because we were soaked and excellent food (tagliatelle with Octopus in ink: a treat!).

Splendid place. Arriving from Luminy, white way then partially concreted so not too difficult but elevation important.

Where to stay in Marseille

The Old Port is near the water, seafood restaurants, and the not-to-be-missed museums. Hotels with sea views come with a price tag to match, though. For more affordable accommodations and local character, check out hostels and rental apartments in the Panier district. The Canebière neighborhood is in the heart of the action. For a more nature-oriented locale, a hotel near Garde Hill offers the nearby botanical gardens.
