Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte, Maincy

Categories: Architectural Buildings, Castles, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 2,400+ reviews on the web
Constructed entirely on a platform surrounded by a moat, Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte can be reached by one of two bridges. The Baroque architecture and estate plan here marked the beginning of the Louis XIV style, combining architecture, interior design, and landscape design. The garden's pronounced visual axis is an example of this style. Inside, you'll find Monsieur and Madame Nicolas Fouquet's apartments, furnished to depict their 17th-century aristocratic lifestyles and decorated with their favorite artworks. From the ground floor, you can see the garden and countryside. Children's activities, guided tours, and audio tours in English are available at the ticket booth. Just past the booth, you'll find the Horse and Carriage Museum, with large stables and ornate antique carriages. • Who is in Paris, if necessary visited Versailles, must be necessarily here. Here, Louis XIV had the idea for Versailles. Here he hired away all his Builder (and had his life imprisoned the Builder / embedding). This plant is impressive – from the first up to the last moment. Each perspective reveals new perfection. Each step shows new perspectives. It is good to understand that here Ludwig XIV envy pale (Versailles did not exist yet).

  • Very nice place, we had taken only the afternoon (too short to visit Castle and gardens). I recommend this visit out of season you have much less world that allows you to make beautiful pictures and enjoy full explanations and do not do this to the "no running" because the place is very interesting me being passionate history never had the tempts to make this visit off-season predict weather views choose a beautiful sunny day to the photos of the gardens.

  • Beautiful by candlelight, the music and performance in the evening were well done and small kids seem to love it. Food at Les Charmilles restaurant was quite good for a set menu, although the lemon parfait was a little tart for our liking.
  • I was there in 1982 and it was amazingly beautiful, well maintained, The gift shop was lovely too. Not to be missed. The gardens are breathtaking and staff very provessional. Spend the day here if you can and walk the gardens. One of my favorite places Go enjoy You will always remember this beautfiul place.
  • Stunning grounds. Incredible Chateau. Plenty of open spaces. Very relaxing. Kids loved driving the Golf Carts around the grounds €15 per 45 mins. We had dinner in the restaurant near the Entrance. Food was good. Staff friendly and helpful. Will visit again.
  • My 5x great grandfather built this castle. I want it back. Very beautiful castle.
  • One of the most beautiful castles in the Paris area. Inside is great as well. This castle strongly inspired the one of Versailles, nothing less.
