Abbaye de Maillezais, Maillezais

Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web
Abbaye de Maillezais was once a thriving Abbey where monks lived, worked, and worshipped. Now the Abbey and Cathedral--set among the moors--lay in ruins, but its silouette against the sky is indictative once was a thriving community. The outlines of the gothic windows and and stone gables make for grand photo opportunities. As you hike around the Abbey and Cathedral grounds you may come across the remnants of an archelogical site that revealed foundations of other buildings used in the monk’s day to day life, such as a salt cellar, kitchen, dormitory, and a refectory. Abbaye de Maillezais is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Maillezais Edition.

  • Abbey of type flamboyant, yet despite its ruins a commanding presence to the 21st centuries.

  • Visit attractive and rather short, rather quiet and impressive, imagine that you are danns somewhere "lost" and that you discover this grand Abbey in front of you and... that's it you find yourself in the middle age and go for the dream, like in the movies! Monitored and paid entry except the heritage days. Go discover it, it will be better than words. Furthermore, the visit is at your own pace. Ah yes, the film presentation is 4 minutes and is really short and succinct information rich, too bad.

  • Great tour to do. I advise you to bring a mobile phone set available for a visit detail site! The cardboard is great very nice photos to take...
