Place des Terreaux, Lyon
(4/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
From the center of Place des Terreaux you’ll see a 360-degree view of stunning 17th, 18th, and 19th century architecture. The square is flanked by the Musee dex Beaux Arts and the Hotel de Ville. During the French Revolution, this square was the site of over 80 beheadings by guillotine. However, the modern square is a peaceful, popular meeting place. Our Lyon vacation builder makes visiting Place des Terreaux and other Lyon attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Access in place of Terreaux was impossible during the evenings of the Festival of lights, so the crowd was large and dense. We came back then: we could walk there but without much interest: the fountain is in the works; the work of Buren is minimalist, but it seems he disputes the municipality projects to redevelop this site in her végétalisant while a renovation is necessary.

  • Beautiful square, between City Hall and the House of artists. Unfortunately the fountain was affected by work and you didn't see it. Spectacular during the Festival of lights! The palaces are projected movies

  • Great place in Lyon center. A lot of places to eat and to socialise with people. There are interesting monuments around it too
  • A square fill of bars and restaurants. Just opposite it, you'd find the Fine Arts Museum and the City Hall. Just a 5-min walk to the Opera.
  • Nice center, we liked hanging around and exploring Lyon on foot, nice blend of various shops, cool atmosphere
  • Fontaine Bartholdi, on the Place des Terreaux deserve some photos. Bartholdi was a French sculptor known for designing the Statue of Liberty
  • Amazing square and the water fountain from Bartoldi (architect of the statue of liberty) is unmissable
