Place Bellecour, Lyon

(2.6/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Place Bellecour is the third largest square in France and the largest pedestrian square in Europe. In the center of the square you’ll see the Sun King himself, Louis XIV, mounted on a horse in an extravagant and lavish pose. On the west side of the square is a statue of the Petit Prince and the book's author Antoine de Saint-Exupery. These two representations are reminders of the two opposing forces in French history: aristocracy and egalitarianism. The square itself was a vital symbol used by rulers to represent shifts in power by renaming the square with each new era: from kings, to conquerors, to guillotine, and back again. It is a great stop for panoramic photos and a view of some masterful French architecture. With our world travel planner, Lyon attractions like Place Bellecour can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • with the big wheel light (attraction) winter and the different elements occupying it throughout the year, this place remains a staple of the city.

  • Great place and point zero of Lyon, she didn't really special attraction apart from the tourist office. During the end of the year with the Festival of lights, among other things, a Ferris wheel is installed and gives the place a bit of gaiety. Otherwise nothing transcendent. However, the weather, the view on the Basilica of Fourvière is interesting.

  • She is great and unmistakable if you come in this neighborhood. It's huge. That's the point 0 for Lyon. You'll find the tourist office and a big wheel - only in winter I think. Three statues which I let you discover one concerns a boy who talks to a man, you must have read the book...
