See exquisite miniatures and learn about movie special effects at Musée Miniature et Cinéma, housed in a 15th-century architectural masterpiece. Inside the Maison des Avocats (House of Lawyers), you’ll find miniatures carved in minute detail. The museum is the brainchild of Dan Ohlmann, a cabinetmaker with a passion for detail that led to a career as one of the leading miniaturist artists in the world. Over 100 miniatures display hyper-realistic scenes of everyday life, such as a local market, a bedroom, or a salon complete with bookshelves and teacups. Continue to the second floor where you'll see the artists at work. Watch as a miniature takes shape under the steady hand of these resident artists. If you’re hungry for more magic, then don’t miss the film special-effects exhibit displayed in the other half of the historic building; the dynamic displays and reenactments reveal the trickery behind the camera. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Lyon holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Musée Miniature et Cinéma and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • The museum is a great option for anyone who is looking for a fun experience that does not take overly long (I reckon it takes little over an hour). I personally love everything cinema so I thought it ...  read more »

  • This museum is located in a beautiful building. Instead, he is already magical. The miniatures are impressive, we'd have hours admiring all the details. I sat in AWE in front of the work of the artists. The side cinema is also remarkable. There is, for once, behind the screen. Do not proceed to Lyon without visiting this Museum, you will not regret.

  • Awesome museum, 2 for 1! Real movie props and sets, and beautiful miniatures. The miniatures are true works of art with very evocative scenes/lighting. Also, most of the descriptions are both in English and French.
  • Divided in two parts, both great. The first with a lot of accessories, costumes of different movies and the second with some miniature interiors. I was surprised because some of the movie's accessories exposed here were quite recent. I suspect they actualize their collection from time to time. Also, the movies used here are quite famous, from the big hollywoodian blockbuster to the legendary classic.
  • The miniatures were incredibly detailed and truly captured the spirit of their settings. The movie props and costumes were equally interesting. They were fun to see, but the explanations of how they are made was the fascinating part. It was a delightful visit.
  • I have been to 60+ countries in the world and always visit museums of every variety. This is one of the coolest I have ever been to.
  • We went to this place not expecting a lot to be fair, we couldn't be more wrong! The place is impressive there are 9 floors full of movie stuff (objects, mask, effects, weapons, miniature...BIG miniatures) the recreations of the set of "Le Parfum" on the last floor you can admire the supreme work of Dan Ohlmann that is without any doubt a masterpiece! If you are in Lyon and you are a little curious about movie, for 9€, you definitely have to visit this fantastic place!
