Musee Miniature et Cinema, Lyon

See exquisite miniatures and learn about movie special effects at Musee Miniature et Cinema, housed in a 15th-century architectural masterpiece. Inside the Maison des Avocats (House of Lawyers), you’ll find miniatures carved in minute detail. The museum is the brainchild of Dan Ohlmann, a cabinetmaker with a passion for detail that led to a career as one of the leading miniaturist artists in the world. Over 100 miniatures display hyper-realistic scenes of everyday life, such as a local market, a bedroom, or a salon complete with bookshelves and teacups. Continue to the second floor where you'll see the artists at work. Watch as a miniature takes shape under the steady hand of these resident artists. If you’re hungry for more magic, then don’t miss the film special-effects exhibit displayed in the other half of the historic building; the dynamic displays and reenactments reveal the trickery behind the camera. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Lyon holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Musee Miniature et Cinema and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Different Museum in the script. Part related to cinema, in the city of the Lumiere brothers and part dedicated the models and miniatures.

  • We had a citypass card and stopped for a fun hour. Great exhibits well laid out. Fair price and in the old town.  more »
  • This museum is really interesting. The place itself is beautiful. Presentations in place with costumes, sets, or the miniatures are great. It is suitable for children from 8-10 years knowing that 2 rooms showing "gore" effects have hangings to avoid shocking children

  • Very impressive museum which massive collection of movie items and fantastic miniature sets. It does not relate to Lyon however it worth a visit. Can you believe attached photos are miniature? Go check the museum!
  • This is one of my favorite museums I've ever visited. Plenty of movie props and their context. None of them are fake, but the most amazing thing to see were the mini sets. If you place your phone camera near the opening the perspective is perfect to look like its real.
  • Museum you have to do in Lyon. Love all the expositions ! All the details are amazing , miniatures look real. And be careful at the corner you can meet the alien queen's!
  • Loads of movie props, puppets and costumes. Exhibition is spilt into 7 zones, the last couple are miniature worlds. Some bits they recommend not taking small kids into as they are more of the horror genre.
  • We can see the actual props and creations used in diverse movies. The miniature museum part is also very well made. It is like 2 museums in one. Allow 2 hrs, all day if you read everything!

Where to stay in Lyon

Lyon’s nine districts surround the two major rivers running through the city: the Rhône and the Saône. The most scenic districts are Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) and La Croix Rousse, where the city’s historic sites are located. Lodging in these areas is walking distance to these sites. Near the breathtaking Parc de la Tête, the Tête D’Or district offers a quieter option away from the city center.
