After a trip to the London’s World Fair in 1851, Lyon’s silk manufacturers returned home determined to create a museum where their renowned work would be preserved for generations to come. Musee des Tissus et des Arts Decoratif is that museum, and since the 19th century it has grown into the largest collection of silks in the world with over two billion different design samples that span over 4,500 years of silk production. Inside you will find local samples that date back to the middle ages and pieces from China, Japan, and even silks that once clothed the Pharaohs of Egypt. • Museum of fabrics must remain at Ainay, centralize the foure culture everything in confluence will go against international development want to Lyon. A museum tour, allowing the tourists to discover all of the Lyonnais neighborhoods is the best strategies for the influence of Lyon... Stop the culture of sales and all centralize at the Museum of the confluence to justified expenses and the choice risky and visionary of our elected officials.

  • This is a medium-size museum. It has different types of arts for different tastes, it has a nice selection of sculptures, an Egyptian exhibit with cool and interesting things. It also has a Greek exhibit, not that big. The last level is of paintings, it is quite good. There's an inner patio, quite beautiful that's accessible to everyone, do not need to pay to get in there. Depending on your age the museum is expensive or not. I'm under 26 so I payed 4 euros, which is really good for a museum. The normal fare is 8 euros, which I consider expensive for the size of the museum.
  • Amazing textiles, very inspiring pieces. Only downside is that the info is only in French... Good scarf selection in the gift shop!
  • Fascinating! This is basically two museums, one of the textiles and one is a tour of home decor from the 16-19th century. It was amazing to see the portraits created on looms, there were two that looked like ink prints but we're in fact made on a loom. They start with the history of the loom products and end with really interesting new advanced with fabrics - best resistance, airbags, etc. Unfortunately the information was only in French so as a non-French speaking tourist I didn't get as much out if it. The second building is set up as the house would have been in the 1800s and back with lovely furniture and fixtures. There is also some modern silverware.
  • 2 Museums: Textile and decor, nice , a couple of floors and good collection, little bit repetitive in the decor section but still worth a visit, not too pricey. Allow 1.5 hours for both museums, prepare for tons of stairs
  • Great collection. The information is all in French, though, which I could have handled except that the text is also quite small, and the lighting fairly dim.

Where to stay in Lyon

Lyon’s nine districts surround the two major rivers running through the city: the Rhône and the Saône. The most scenic districts are Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) and La Croix Rousse, where the city’s historic sites are located. Lodging in these areas is walking distance to these sites. Near the breathtaking Parc de la Tête, the Tête D’Or district offers a quieter option away from the city center.
