The Château de Chazeron is a castle situated in the commune of Loubeyrat in the French département of Puy-de-Dôme, 3km north-west of Châtel-Guyon.Originally a medieval castle, Chazeron was altered in the 17th century by the architect François Mansart. He built a staircase on the site of the keep and added an arcaded gallery. The moat was filled in, three of the external walls were demolished and two wings were added.During the Second World War, Léon Blum, Georges Mandel, Édouard Daladier, Paul Reynaud and Maurice Gamelin were imprisoned in the castle in 1942 before their appearance at the Riom Trial.Today, the castle is a cultural centre, exhibiting drawings and avant-garde furniture. The keep offers views over the Sardon valley and the Limagne plain. The castle has been listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1944.Sources Michelin: Green Guide: Auvergne, Rhône Valley p.95 Ministry of Culture at

  • We visited the castle in September. Guided uninteresting; We don't keep much. The guide knows that the story of the Castle and does not value. Inside is disappointing but the exteriors are worth visiting.

  • A very very good time with family during a treasure hunt enabled us to discover some secrets of the Castle, including hidden passages. Our two children (12 and 15 years old) loved it. By the way, an introduction to Heraldry and medieval life details. Not to mention the Federation of angry Leprechauns! We have not tested the tour since we already covered the Castle, but if it is the image of the animation it must be interesting, especially for superior to our age group where a group visit. In short, a place we recommend thanks again to our friendly Knight guide.
