  • The guided tour with a passionate guide to capture the history and development of the Royal fortress of Chinon through the centuries in the context of the story. Exciting. However little enjoyed the design inside the House. The large Royal robes of Lamyne exposure swept our disappointment. Wonderful surprise! If you can, run it ends January 2, 2017.

  • Guided tour of the fortress is particularly interesting, never boring. The guide has a lot of humor and revisits the story with relevance and a lot of pedagogy.

  • We visited the fortress without having the opportunity to participate in a guided tour as we had booked for our children an activities "created your princesses costumes". The activity itself, in the attic of the Castle, is really nice... Fortunately however we were there we parents to help the children as the person who cared seemed very poor and didn't really know what to do. But the result was nice. However we wished we didn't tour that looked really exciting because the "paper" is frankly more than average... It is difficult to read, difficult to navigate, eventually enough little guidance, and a smart system that allows access to interactive terminals that don't always work. The site and the view of the Vienna are superb. The Castle and the Court were very well renovated. The inside is pretty empty, but we understand however the story at the time, and the designs are overall not bad. In short, a nice visit...

  • The castle is gorgeous and the explanation of the castle is clear and detailed. Worth visiting!
  • Brilliant. The guide books and interactive boards together with the videos in the Royal rooms really bring the history of this Castle to life, from Henry II to Richard the Lionheart and King John through to Joan of Arc. The deck chairs on the lawns, mean you can enjoy the sun, recharge your batteries before looking at the next bit. The tea rooms have lots of outdoor space and are very reasonable.
  • Nice castle but not the best in the Loire valley
  • Over restored with very few articles or history of interest. Particularly poor when compared to the chateaux in the region, though this is a castle/fortress with a longer history, very little of this is apparent from the exhibits.
  • A Disgrace. My wife, who was born nearby, and I have been visiting the Chateau de Chinon since 1967. In December, 2014, I went to the chateau with our daughters and three friends, expecting great things after the massive renovation of the chateau. Instead we found bare rooms, with occasional media screens and short films so pathetic that we laughed at them. Those who go searching for the magic of Henry II or Joan of Arc will come away completely disappointed. We asked ourselves, are those responsible ignorant or lazy? This is a disgraceful presentation of a great French historical monument. My wife and I are both French citizens and we know our country can do better than this.
