  • This Romanesque Abbey is remarkable in more ways than one:-the sarcophagus in white marble of Saint-Sernin, work of all beauty of the master of Cabestany (12th century). It is essential to see the Abbey Church (the rest is much less interesting) - the cloister of the fourteenth. It is especially its harmony to remember. -The abbatial lodgings and a remarkable ceiling painted with a ridge including a quite erotic, surprising and refreshing in such a place. This shows that at one time, the Abbey was more a place of income that's controversial prayers. -A very nice and rare Chair reading in the refectory of the monks. -From the West Gallery of the cloister, a grand staircase leads to the prison and the cellars where the monks produced wine and where was discovered in the 16th century, the famous blanquette, which makes it the oldest effervescent wine. This tour takes one to two hours and is worth the trip if you are in the Aude. Admission is € 5 / person... no tariff reduced for people with disabilities.

  • How could you not want to visit the home of fizz? Lovely, well preserved abbey on a site dating back to Roman times that is famous for inventing fizzy wine (100 years before becoming prevalent in Champagne). It is said that Don Perignon visited the abbey on a pilgrimage to Spain and learned the technique from the Saint Hilaire monks. A short drive from Carcassonne. Check out the painted ceiling in the Abbot's rooms.
  • The House of the Father Abbot is a must see for its polychrome paintings which are in exceptional condition. And that dore das sound the refectory. Beautiful cellars troglodytes and more...

  • Awesome space. Served in Spanish at the entrance of the complex by a dependent helpful. Walk through halls, bends and hiding places deserve peace of mind: the Abbot room, cava's first sparkling wine, Church and cloister... Extraordinary.

  • Beautiful Abbey and possible visit of the whole; cleanliness to stress; Church deserves a more complete restoration and clean bulky and sometimes unnecessary furniture. A small regret: having a more elaborate text or an audio-guide. Thanks for the welcome.
