Roc de Cazelle, Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil
(4.1/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Roc de Cazelle has been inhabited from the days of cave dwellers, through the Middle Ages and into the 20th century. The site's location along cliffs above the river provided protection and a steady water supply. Today visitors can tour the caves and cliff dwellings, which have been reconstructed to show what life was like during different historical periods. Children and adults appreciate the engaging exhibits that show early hunter-gatherers cooking, medieval knights and their armor, and a modern couple home-making there in the 1960s. Human figures, animals, period furniture, and utensils add to the displays. • Start with scenes from prehistory (in the interest of current knowledge in this area), cross the fort in the middle ages, the forest with its animals, gatherers, hunters, etc. (not live), career (authentic) then the Troglodyte house inhabited into the 1960s which gives the impression that farmers are just left in the fields... there, there's "real" hens that convent , rabbits, pigs, geese, etc. Finally, a nice collection of old tools and a miniature reenactment of the Roque St Christophe. I always recommend starting by the Cazelle rock, visit the strong House of Reignac then then end with the Roque St Christophe - and my homes tenants always give me reason. A perfect walk in addition to digest after a good meal Perigord...

  • This space, open air museum exhibits the history of habitat dug in the rock that goes from prehistory to the early 1960s. Caves in the Paleolithic, fortress in the middle ages, habitat troglodyte until 1966, is a true summary of the life of homo sapiens sapiens. Not to be missed. It is instructive. It's fun. It is educational. Everyone can find his account!

  • Excellent value for money, information leaflet on different languages. Extremely informative. Brilliant activities for children. Free parking.
  • Children really enjoyed the visit; interesting
  • Disappointment! The caves of the rock of Cazelle? Where are they? It's the small tunnel dug 50 meters long 5 years ago? 8 euros to walk in the Woods, it was awesome! I can't wait to go back!

  • Very good visit, signs on the course are full of humour. We are progressing through the greenery is very nice. Figurines just lack a little bit of refreshment.

  • Ideal for children from 4 years:-easy to address: the stagings are clear and allow them to understand - playful: they seek the stagings in the nature workshops are very friendly: - young and old participate - the "guide" is sometimes (too?) live, but especially nice (humorous): its activity does not tolerate the debordemement, he therefore leaves no room for overflow. If you are looking for a real prehistoric paintings, this is not the right place: these are re-enactments. Only a farm at the beginning of the 20th is original. I don't think this is suitable for adults without children.
